Silhouettes

For as long as I can remember, these silhouettes have hung in my grandparent's bedroom.  I told Grammy last time I was at her house that I loved them and wanted to know about them.  She said they were made when they were first married and living in New Orleans.  It was in 1948 when she was 19 and Grampy was 23.  I love classic heirlooms like that!  The next time I saw her they were wrapped up for me.  She wanted someone to have them that appreciated them.  They are definitely priceless to me.

I hung them in our guest bathroom because I love the black against the sage green walls.  I also love the original frames and mattes.

I posted this picture on instagram a couple of weeks ago (I finally joined!)  If you would like to follow me, my ID is sldavis08.  I don't post all the time and when I do it is usually of the kiddos, so fair warning.  :)

What a sweet heirloom! I love how you kept it just the way your Grammy had it! It looks great in your bathroom!
I can't wait to start following you on Instagram. Bryan says I'm a little addicted to it! Ha!

I would suggest writing on the back of the frames, the story that goes with them from your grandparents having them made to her passing them on to you, so years from now the story can be shared again when they are passed on to someone else.

Family heirlooms are so special! One thought (that you may have already considered!) is I have read to be careful about what art and decor you place in a bathroom because the heat and steam from showers can damage even framed pieces, and to only place things in the bathroom that you don't mind some damage on or that won't be affected by steam. But, especially because these silhouettes are so precious to you and paper is easily affected by moisture, I thought the idea of finding a different spot to display them might be worth mentioning. They are lovely!

Love this Shannon!! And you've just totally insprired to get Parker's silhouette done. I have one of Jake at just a little younger than he is now by a man in Savannah "selling" them in the art district along the water. He used a teeny tiny pair of scissors to cut it out with. So neat! I need to have Parker's done so I'll have a matching set. :) And I love that you love family heirlooms too. I just finished framing a letter my dad wrote to my mom while he was stationed in Turkey and a postcard from their honeymoon spot (the same as mine and Jim's).
