Westin's First Trip to the Dentist

Westin had a dentist appointment a couple of weeks ago and he was so excited to go!  He loves the Bubble Guppies episode where they go to the dentist so he was really looking forward to it.

He was in heaven when we got there and he saw it was ocean themed!  He walked all over the crowed waiting room yelling and pointing, "A scuba diver!  Nemo!  A shark!  Pirate ship!"  He is very much into scuba divers right now for some reason.  :)

He did great until she started leaning the chair back.  Then he wanted nothing to do with it.  He even ripped off his bib and threw it on the floor.  :)  So I sat in the chair with him and he let them do the exam and brush his teeth.  I was so proud of him!  I admit, I was very nervous taking him since I figured he would freak out.

The hygienist had obviously never seen a blogger before.  She thought it was hilarious I had a camera at a dentist appointment!  She literally could not get over it.  She got into it though because she took like 8 pictures of us.  Haha!  He got a t-shirt and some stickers afterward so he was a happy boy!

What a good Mom you are sitting in the chair with him. Our 2nd daughter's first visit when she was 3 had to be rescheduled 6 mths later because she screamed her head off and cried the whole time, actually bawled. The dentist sent us home. She's 22 now. Keep him going and he'll do fine. Have a great evening!

It's funny to take pictures of random things around people who don't blog, b/c they tend to think you are crazy!! Happens all the time here in the North!

Love the picture of your little guy trying to get out of the chair! He is so cute. :)
I think I may be a bad mom because I did not go back with my kids on their first visit to the dentist while they cleaned their teeth. Once they were done I went back.

Looks like Westin had fun at the end of the day. It was good that you stayed calm and sat on the chair with him to let him relax. The initial visit to the dentist is crucial for a child, since this would entail how they would perceive dental hygiene in the future.

The hygienist must have had a blast taking pictures. If she sees your post, I am sure she’ll be proud of herself thinking she’s the one who took those. Hahaha! Anyway, it’s Westin who should be proud of himself. It seemed like he did great at the dentist. The ambiance and the appearance of the clinic truly is an important element to lure in patients. My kids are also somewhat drawn into our current dental clinic because of how great it looks. Great dentists and very friendly staff too!

Kudos to your fun day at the dentist! This would definitely start a great dental hygiene habit for Westin, as he undoubtedly had a great time. It is always crucial to start any good practice, especially going to the dentist, at an early age. :)

We brought our kid to the dentist as early as he had a tooth. We were keen to not say that everything will be fine. It makes it easier for them to trust you and the dentist when you are not pre-empting their expectations. Kudos to you for having a great time at the dentists!

Nervous moments at the start. Mum you experienced all the emotions that day. Starts off anxious, then relieved because of the environment, then he starts getting nervous to a positive outcome. I think it is a great idea to take pictures on the first visit because you will be able to look back and have a few chuckles.
