Hogs and Smiles

That is a pretty odd title after our game on Saturday but win or lose, we will always be Hog fans.  The humiliating loses are a little tougher to handle though.  Westin still wore his Hog shirt proudly.

The irony was not lost on me that I made a shirt that declared my love for the Hogs while watching the 52-0 disaster unfold on TV.  It is hard being a Razorback fan.  There's always next week I guess.

I made the shirt using THIS freezer paper transfer method.  To get the graphics, I googled "razorback clip art" and "love graphic" and then traced them on the freezer paper right off the computer screen.

Sunday morning I snapped a few pictures of Reagan since she is at such a smiley age.

I asked Cody to take a picture of the two of us since Sunday may or may not be the only day I don't wear my hair in a pony tail and have make up on. :)

These pictures of Westin make me nervous for our family pictures next month.  He will do almost anything but smile at the camera.

He purposefully looks away or better yet, does what he calls his "pretty smile."  That is debatable.  Ha!

Anybody have any tricks to get him to cooperate?  Right now I'm thinking I will ask my mom to come with us and dangle peppermints (Westin's favorite candy) over the photographer's head as a bribe.  :)  I'm open to all suggestions!

Hilarious! My boys all do that "fake" smile when they are supposed to do a "nice" one. My oldest finally has it down pat. He's learned that if he just does it we can get done sooner. My 4 year old though.. ugh. Totally different story. If I want anything remotely decent we make a trek to the toy store and grab a couple of new Cars toys (like the little matchbox type). I make a huge deal out of how he can only get them once the pictures are done. I take them with me and set them behind the photographer (he has to be motivated a lot :). I almost always get great pictures of him this way! It's so worth the extra 8-10 bucks spent to have really good pictures!

What sweet pictures! You and Reagan look so great with your real smiles, and even though Westin is hamming it up, he's still adorable!! I hope your pictures do go well. We did ours a few months ago, and Jackson was not having it, so I think we have two where he is smiling! Oh well. I also love the hog gshirt you made for yourself. And as Aggie fans, believe me, I feel your pain! Maybe y'all will win next week!!

Go for family in action shots. Swing him between your husband and yourself or put him on Cody's shoulders. Let him wave a stick.Put both kids in a vintage red wagon. Go somewhere with an old tire swing. Maybe not the dream family pose but better to get real joy and capture what life is like in your family now.

Bribery with fruit snacks or M and M's:) Or just enjoy the cheesy smiles and looking away---it's more of a game to get pictures than anything with my boys;) Part of the fun, I guess! And I LOVE that Razorback shirt---I will have to try that freezer paper method!

When our youngest was about Westin's age I put m&ms in a baggie in my pocket for our shoot to give out at random. They each got an M every time the photographer said they were doing well. In what is now my favorite picture, you can see our oldest with candy stuffed in the side of his cheek-ha! I'm usually fundamentally opposed to bribery, but a mom needs a good Christmas card picture : )

Girl you Arkansas girls are like us WV girls with our teams! Whether they win, lose or tie we are still die hard fans! I had to chuckle that you were ironing on that t-shirt with the brutal game, I would have done the same thing! Can I say how gorgeous your littles are and they look presh in their Razorback gear and fall clothes love it! OK Kelcee does this cheesy face lol, and we have been practicing the sweet smile for Thursday's pictures ha, so I told her that if she does the sweet smile she gets a little pressie, eh I'm not against bribing lol! Good Luck with pictures! You look gorgeous! xoxo Sums

One very well-known children's photographer in our area has an assistant that talks to the children and tell them stories and funny jokes to get the appropriate facial responses. The kids get so caught up in what she is saying that they forget they are being photographed. Voila! No cheesy smiles...just beautiful natural expressions. If the photographer wanted one of the child looking right at the camera, she waited until they were fully engaged with the other person then said something to coincide with the conversation and then the child would look at her. Good luck with your family pictures! Even if he is making some silly face, you will cherish it one day and remember what a sweet and silly boy he was at that age.

I don't have any tips (I just had my first experience with any of this having Maddie's one year pics taken last Sunday) - but - Reagan's smile in the first picture of the three of you is so precious! What a happy girl!

I love the "love" shirt, although I feel like I am in a bad and unstable relationship with the team. Ha!

The pictures with Westin crack me up. Bryce does stuff like that all the time. I have not even attempted family pictures for that reason!

I love how Reagan is smiling so big! This won't help, but my 12 year old still doesn't cooperate in pictures. I've started sending out collage Christmas cards with all his goofiness on them.

I want to make a cute shirt like that! I love all of the little simple shirts you make your kids!

LOVE the pic of you and Reagan too. My Hudson does the same thing when I take his picture right now but when someone else takes it, he normally does a good job!

Hi Shannon : )

I saw this on pinterest and thought about you immediately. This was from an etsy shop but you are so creative, you could probably make one yourself. Hope you find a way to get those cute poses and smiles you are looking for : )
God bless!

Ohh Shannon those babies are just too cute! Those Hogs well. I wish I had a great idea to help make Westin smile but if it's any consolation. Let it be. My oldest is about to turn 22. Yikes I know! He did the same things Weston is doing and it drove me nuts. To tears somedays. Really?! Yes, I'm ashamed to say. Well 22 years later, those shots that brought tears now bring laughter. For the kids birthdays I always take out the photos and display them. I would not change a thing now. His funny faces and frowns make our days now. And for the record, He is now a total camera HOG! Loves it now. Go figure?

Westin is just adorable. I have 3 girls, no boys, but he looks like he's a blast to have around. You have a beautiful family. God bless.

Shannon! Your family has grown so much since! Your children are so adorable and I can't believe Westin is such a big boy.

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you for having my Etsy shop in your sidebar. I'm not very good at looking at my stats, so I don't pay much attention to where traffic comes from. But today I checked it out, and realized I had a lot coming from here! If you ever need a tassel, whether for yourself or as a gift, contact me and I'll do a custom order (or you can choose one from the shop) for half price. :)

Thank you for promoting handmade! I know all these Etsians appreciate your support!

Shannon, As I former pre-school teacher, I used to say "smile with your eyes open" It worked for the most part.
