In Bloom

Over the last couple of years I have really gotten into our yard. Cody would think that I have just created more work for him but I did pull weeds last week. :) The sunflower above is taller than the fence but for some reason the blooms aren't as big as they were supposed to be. This was my first year with them and it was a learning experience. I planted them a little late so I can't wait to do it right next spring. The picture below was taken last August after we planted all of these plants in our back yard. See the plant in the middle with the purple blooms?
This is it one year later:

Ummmmmm, it is actually covering another plant. Oops! If you want a fast growing pretty plant then I would suggest a butterfly bush. When I water in the evening it has about 20+ butterflies on it. Very pretty. You can click on the picture below to see three butterflies on one bloom.

Of course my favorite plant is my limelight hydrangea. Katie at Harrington House introduced me to these last year and it has doubled in size in one year. She says that some of hers are taller than her. Another fast growing, beautiful plant.

She has great success in drying hers but mine seem to wilt in my vases after several days. I'm not sure if I can do anything different? My regular lacecap hydrangeas last forever in vases.

My pots have really grown and that one potato vine is taking over.
My parents brought us some cannas this spring and they are now so tall. I love the yellow flower.
I have a couple of questions for the gardening experts. Since y'all told me my hydrangeas from THIS post are lacecap hydrangeas I was wondering if it is okay to cut off the old blooms. They have turned white and are now starting to turn brown. Also, I was told my knockout roses are "self-cleaning" does that mean I should not trim off the old blooms? Or is it okay to cut them? One last question, can I trim my butterfly bush back this fall/winter so it is not so big next summer? If so, when is the best time? Thanks so much!!

Nursery Update

I finally got a chalk pen so I changed up Westin's chalkboard over his crib. I put a portion of one of my favorite Bible verses on it. I catch him starring at it a lot and that makes me smile. :)

There is an angled wall in his nursery that my friend made the perfect thing for. She gave me these paintings as a Mother's Day gift and they are very special.

Leah is a wonderful artist and took a profile shot of my 9 month pregnant belly and Westin's newborn profile and turned them into these amazing canvases.

I love how they are understated with muted colors and match his nursery perfectly.

This could be breaking news:

He sucked on his paci for the first time! It lasted about 10 minutes and I was so excited! Most mom's would prefer their baby didn't take a paci but I have been trying to get Westin to suck on one so he would be one step closer to sucking on a bottle. :) He wasn't interested in the sippy cup but we are going to keep trying. Now that he is actually sucking on his fingers and a paci, instead of just biting them, we may go back to trying a bottle. I absolutely LOVE nursing him and I'm so thankful that I can but if I stop to think about how he won't take a bottle sometimes I get a little panicky. Just being honest- sometimes I can feel a little stressed (and almost a tiny bit claustrophobic) to know I can't be away from him longer than 3 hours at the most. I wouldn't trade nursing for anything though! Just an occasional bottle would be nice. :) Thanks for everyone's tips too. We have tried pretty much all of them! I am confident one day he will just get it. Also when he starts eating solids I know they can be used to tie him over for an extra hour or two. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Haha

Shower Curtain

First of all I must say that it is impossible (for me) to photograph this room. I guess there is not enough natural light and I'm not sure how to use all the settings on my camera. :) Anyways, this has turned into the never ending project! Haha That is just the way things are around here now and that is okay.

I found the fabric at Hancocks and loved it but it wasn't the look I was going for. However, at $6.99 a yard (on sale from $21.99 a yard) it quickly became the look I was going for. :) I wanted it to almost be floor to ceiling panels but since it was on clearance they only had 4.5 yards so that is what I had to work with.

I used Heat n Bond to hem all four sides of the panels and clipped them on some drapery rings. I then hung the drapery rings on a wooden closet rod that I bought at Lowe's. The shower rod that holds the shower liner is hung lower behind the panels.

I like the way the blue/greens are pulled out in the wall color. Sherwin Williams Svelte Sage.
I still need to find something to go above the bead board, hang the new light fixture, find a new rug, frame out the mirror and figure something out for the other side of the sink. One step at a time..... Westin is a pretty good shopper but he does have his limits. Haha

So far I really like how it is turning out but I'm anxious to get it finished. :) Happy Weekend!

Elizabeth's Gender Reveal Party

Last week we got to go to Elizabeth and Joseph's gender reveal party. She is due December 26th and we could not be happier! About a week before the party we came up with a fun way for everyone to find out. We made a scavenger hunt! Everyone came to the party in a pink or blue shirt depending on what they thought they were having. I was in a gender neutral color since I already knew. ;)

Elizabeth and Joseph in their pink and blue. They already knew what it was also.
The pink team! Jason, Leah, Joseph, Jo Anne, Stella, Haley, Terry and Cody.
The blue team! Cam, Marian, Kyle, Eliz, Ben, Andrew, Katie, Zach and Trisha. The teams almost came out even which made it even more fun.

Elizabeth and I came up with 5 clues for each team. The blue team had clues that all had to do with boys. For example, "Daddy will have to be brave, when he teaches his son to _______". The answer was "shave" so they went to find Joseph's razor. On the razor was another clue and so on and so on. The clues for the pink team all had to do with girl things. One example was, "Little girls will always laugh, when they take a bubble ________". The answer was "bath" so they went to the bathtub for their next clue. The clues took them around the house and a few took them outside. The last clue card said, "Go to the living room for your final clue."

Once both teams were in the living room I handed them their final clue at the same time. Here is the pink team reading it.

The final clue said, "Add up the numbers on the back of your clue cards. If the numbers equal Baby Ray's due date (26) then shout out, 'It's a ________'." So the teams were racing at this point and the blue team got to shout out, "IT'S A BOY!!!" Yay!! We are so excited to have another little boy at Fam Night. :)
Katie and Andrew "cheers-ing" their blue cupcakes since they got it right.<>

So happy for another boy. :)

Elizabeth and Joseph opening some fun gifts for their baby. We had such a fun night! I'm so glad we got to be a part of their special night. We can't wait to meet baby Asa!

Meet Colson

Yesterday, Colson Allen Rowe joined our family the same day his sister Reese Catherine celebrated 11 months in Heaven.

There were some anxious friends and family waiting for his arrival.
He's here! He arrived at 2:12 pm, 7lbs, 15oz and 21" long. The biggest of all his siblings!

His Aunt Shannon already loves him sooo much! Colson and Westin will only be 4 months apart and hopefully the best of friends!

Birthday Gift

Sometimes the best gifts come from the flea market. We celebrated my 28th birthday last night with my family and my parents got me this cake stand:

I have always wanted one of these. I'm talking like since I first saw them in probably junior high. I love this color green and I love cake stands. Love this!!

On another note, I have a CSNstores review coming up. I've searched their 200+ stores (hey, someone had to do it!) :) and have come up with something to help me in our guest bathroom.
I can't wait for you to see it! It involves new lighting! Also, I'll be using some birthday money to buy some fabric for a shower curtain. Hopefully I can get the ball rolling in this room. :) I'm excited to get it finished! I'm going to a party tonight that will be soooo fun. It is a gender reveal party for one of my best friends! I can't wait to share all those details with you too!! Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Four Months

On Monday Westin turned four months! Where has the time gone? I wanted to wait until after his Dr. appointment today to post his stats.

-Weight-13 lbs 2 oz (15%)
-Height- 24.21 inches (25%)
-He has still only rolled over twice (Back to stomach).
-He is always grabbing his feet.
-Still sleeping through the night (since about 2 1/2 months) but wakes up around 5am to eat. Thankfully he goes right back to sleep until around 8-9 am.
-"Talking" more and more which we can't get enough of!
-Size 2 diapers.
-Pretty much all 3-6 month clothing. Still wears a few 0-3 month pieces.
-Still loves the swing but hardly ever sits in his boucer seat.
-Loves his play mat with the toys hanging down.
-Has really started to grasp toys and pull them to his mouth.
-Loves, loves, loves being outside.
-Loves bathtime!
-Still will NOT take a bottle. It's crazy! We have tried everything. I'm thinking about trying him on a sippy cup.
-Still eating about every 2-2 1/2 hours. :)

Celebration Re-Cap

We are usually at the lake on the 4th but this year we stayed home since Katie can't travel so close to her due date. It turned out to be a great day! We had a great church service honoring all the branches of the military, complete with two marines repelling from the ceiling. Last night we went to our church's 3rd annual Fireworks at the Crosses.
Westin and I in our red, white and blue.
Westin wasn't really into this picture. ;)
Some of our small group. We are almost getting outnumbered by babies! :)

Zach-The Ultimate Drink Stealer. That's okay though. ;)

Katie and I.One word. Brothers.

Always stylin'.
Family pic at the crosses.

Westin loved the fireworks! I was not sure how he would do with the noise but it didn't phase him one bit. He loved all the lights. We all had a great time and hope you enjoyed celebrating too!

Happy 4th!

My front door is not very patriotic but I just love it for the summer. I got this metal flower at a local craft fair. My fern is taking over!

I do put out flags in the flower pots from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
You can see I still have my "No Soliciting" sign. It works like a charm! I see people walk up to my door and then just turn around and leave. :)
Westin would like to wish you a Happy 4th! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
