Nursery Curtains Part II

I had several of you ask about how I made the nursery curtains without sewing. First, you must go HERE and read The Nester's post about mistreatments. She gives a run down on her techniques. I first heard about no-sew window treatments from her about a year ago. Ever since then I'm always thinking about how I can make pretty window treatments the fast and easy way without breaking out the sewing machine. I'm not very good at explaining things but I'll try my best. :)

So for the nursery curtains I ironed a crease in all four sides of the toile fabric. After I did that I took some iron on hem tape (from Wal*mart or Hob Lob or any fabric/craft store) and placed it inside the crease and ironed it on according to the directions.

I did the same thing to the bottom plaid fabric as well. However, I now know that I didn't have to do all four sides of both fabrics. I could have only done three sides of one of the fabrics because when you place one fabric on top of the other it would have covered the un-hemmed edge of the other fabric. Since I did all four sides of both fabrics it made the place where they overlapped a little thick so I used fabric glue to attach the two fabrics. Just follow the directions on the bottle.

That is all I did! They were so easy. There are different types of no-sew hem tape so just get the one that is made for the weight of your fabric. You can see in the picture above that we raised the curtain rod and it looks much better.

I clipped the panels on some ring clips and they were finished. Some of you asked about the paint color too but for some reason I couldn't get to your profiles so HERE is the post where I talked about the paint. If you have asked me a question and have not heard back then that means I cannot get to you. Either there is not an email address left or your blogger profile is not accessible (those are the main problems I have). I will always answer every question. So please make sure there is a way for me to contact you. The best way is just leave your email address in your comment.

I also could not wait to show you this hat I ordered. I found it HERE and will be using it in Westin's newborn pictures. I cannot wait! :) I hope you are staying warm! We are snowed in!

Inexpensive Organization

Remember this picture from waaaay back in July? I started this project of painting the tubs but then never took an after picture. I didn't even tell you what I was going to do with them! I painted a chalkboard square on each one and used them in the garage.

These shelves just had everything shoved on them so I put the bins out here and put like items inside them. Now everything has a place and we know exactly what is inside each tub. I could actually use some more! Now, if I could just get Cody to put things back inside the tub once he takes it out....

Nothing much going on here! I'm 32 weeks and other than my swollen feet, I feel good. I can't believe I will have a baby in probably less than 8 weeks! So crazy and so exciting! Haha. I will do a post soon on how I made the nursery curtains because I have had a lot of questions about them. We are supposed to have an ice storm and snow storm tonight and Friday so hopefully we won't lose power. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Wonderful Gift and Nursery Chalkboards

What a fun surprise to get this vinyl Bible verse in the mail this past weekend! Twice As Nice Lettering was so sweet to send me this. They make the cutest vinyl decals. They customized the size for me to go over the closet doors and can make yours custom too. The beige color matches the bedding perfectly too. I love it! Thank you Fern and Fran!

This past weekend we also decided to paint the wall with chalkboard paint inside the antique frame.

I took some of your advice and made a family tree inside the frame. I'm not sure that I love it (because I am NOT an artist) but it will work for now. :) I might invest in some chalk pens because I don't like the white chalk when everything else is beige or cream.

How many chalkboards can one room hold? Well, Westin's room can hold three including the antique slate in his cabinet. :) I saw this red chalkboard at Kirk*lands this past weekend and fell in love with it and the $9.98 price tag. Obviously the red color didn't go so I painted it a cream color.
For now it sits on top of his cabinet but I can see him using it when he is older. I can also see me using it at birthday parties or any kind of party for menus or just a fun message. It is a fun two sided easle type chalkboard.

My family will laugh at me because they know how I feel about stuffed animals but I can really see a cute stuffed animal sitting on that baby scale. :) Of course it will have to match the nursery. Ha!

I am also SOOOOO excited to finally be able to tell you that my sister-in-law, Katie is pregnant! I know so many of you have been praying for her and my brother since Reese was born in August. Thank you for all of your prayers! We cannot wait to meet baby #3 in July!

Nursery Curtains

This past weekend I got to make the curtain panels for Westin's nursery. I had planned to have them made but decided to save some money by making them myself. (It is hard to take a picture of this room with the big window.) This is the view walking into the room:

I used the toile fabric on the top with the plaid on the bottom. You know I didn't sew a stitch. I just used hem tape and fabric glue.

They are a little long so we are going to raise the rod a little bit.

I really like how they turned out....I just didn't like how long they took to make! :) I think it might have been easier to use the sewing machine but then again it probably would have taken me an hour to thread the bobbin.

If you haven't entered the giveaway, there is still time! I'll be picking a winner this afternoon! Click HERE to enter.

Re-arranging Again

Getting ready for a baby is a lot of work that involves a lot of re-arranging and re-purposing! :) This little corner of our room used to hold a leather chair and ottoman. When we bought the cradle we had to find a new place for the chair.

I don't think I ever showed you the bumpers I had made for the cradle. The same lady who made his crib bedding made these out of an antique coverlet that I had. He gets all white bedding in our room to match our all white bedding. :) As a bonus I just used something I already had so I didn't have to buy any more fabric!

So where did the leather chair go? Here is an old before picture of our living room:

Here is the after:

We took the tree out and put the chair in the same corner. I have loved having the extra seating
in here.
This little re-do project has nothing to do with a baby coming but I thought I would show you anyway. Cody accidentally knocked the white platter off the wall awhile back so I had to find something else to hang under the green one.

I used some green ribbon that I already had and hung this little silver tray chalkboard. I'm not even mad at Cody because I think I like this look so much better! :)

Nursery Project

I wanted to do a little something special in West's nursery. Over Christmas Cody's Mom gave me Cody's coming home outfit so I thought that would be the perfect touch for the nursery. I had originally thought about a shadow box but after seeing the prices of those I went to plan B. I bought a 1/2 off open back frame, 1/4 yd of burlap and a yd of ribbon.

I didn't know what color burlap would be better on the walls so I bought both. You might need to click on the picture to enlarge it to see that the frame was too stark white.
I watered down some brown paint, brushed it on and then wiped it off with a paper towel to get a more aged look. (Not sure why this pic loaded sideways.)

Then I stapled the burlap to the back of the frame.

Since this frame didn't have a hook on the back to hang it, I used some ribbon.

It is stapled on the back just like the burlap.

I hung it on an upholstery tack.....looks a little better than a regular nail.

The finished product! His little shirt didn't fit too well in the frame so I left it out. Plus I think it is cute without it too. It is just pinned up there and it will be so easy to change this out later with pictures, West's coming home outfit or just about anything.

Remember how I asked you to help me with ideas for over his crib? Y'all had great ideas and a lot of the ideas were to put a verse or his name above it. I love this idea but the sweet sisters at Twice as Nice have offered to send me a vinyl verse that I was planning on putting over his closet doors. SOOOO, I didn't think I wanted more wall words over the crib. However, I found this antique frame that is the perfect color and size to hang over the crib.

For some reason the only thing I can see inside it is his name in vinyl lettering. I just don't think that is what I want to do though. I don't want too much vinyl in here because the wall space is very limited. So I looked around on etsy and I love this print:

It comes in many colors and I think it would be so neat to have one for all our kids in the future. So my thinking was that my dad could make a big chunky frame out of some moulding and we could nail that to the wall and put this in the middle. I would probably just tack it to the wall inside the frame because I just wouldn't want glass over his head.

Which idea do you like better? What would you hang in the antique frame? Do I just need to start from square one again? I'm making myself so confused! :) I just keep hoping it will all come to me one day. :)

Westin's Nursery So Far

Happy New Year! We just got home after being away for 16 days! We had so much fun with our families but we are very happy to be home. I finally got the last bit of Christmas put away yesterday. I feel like I can breathe again. :)

Here I am at 29 weeks in front of Westin's new stocking. I love that it coordinates with ours. It is from Ballard Designs.

I did a lot of antique shopping while I was away and found this table when I was out with Cody's Mom. I love how the middle shelf is made to hold books. Cody and my Dad painted it this cream color because it was turquoise blue. :) I can't believe I didn't take a before picture. The cream was just some left over paint that was in my parent's garage.

My Mom and I also ordered this glider to go in the nursery. It is from Best Chairs and we got it in a coordinating brown to match his bedding. It will go beside the little table.

My Grandmother got Westin his own silver baby cup and we had his initials engraved on it.

I got these baskets for Christmas so I did a little organizing when we got home. I know I'll probably change things around after my showers and also after West is here and we live with everything for awhile. Right now they are holding bibs, socks, hats and onesies. It has been so fun getting his room in order! I still have to make (have made) the drapes but hope to get to that this week. I also hope to get better at blogging! Maybe I'll start posting twice a week instead of once a week. :)
