Magnetic Memo Board/Chalkboard-UPDATED

Don't forget to enter the Twice As Nice giveaway HERE!

UPDATE-Kara emailed me and said she got some metal squares (that are meant for outside) at the Dollar Tree! That would be perfect. Thanks Kara!

About a year or so ago I tore out this picture from my Ballard catalog. I showed my brother, Andrew, who manages a tool store. (I know it is more than a tool store but I don't know what else to call it. An industrial supply store?) Anyways, I told him to get me three pieces of metal that is magnetic. Well.........I'm still waiting.
I took matters into my own hands.
I was browsing Oops (A local closeout store who used to have a website but I can't find it anymore. It was oopsdeals.com) one day and saw these metal pig signs. I thought they would be perfect for this project. Plus they were only $1.80 each.

I covered one in brown burlap. I wrapped the fabric around the sign and hot glued it to the back. I then hot glued the ribbon to the back.

Once I started I couldn't stop! I covered two with black and white fabric and painted one with chalkboard paint. I love that the chalkboard is magnetic also.

I realize everyone does not have an Oops nearby but I've seen these metal signs at Hobby Lobby. You can wait until they go half off or use the 40% off coupon that is usually online. Or just keep your eye out for a cheap piece of metal that is magnetic. :) I bet the home improvement stores would have something too. Whatever you do, do not count on your younger brother. It could be over a year! ;)

How did you fold the burlap on the backs? And I remember you saying you bought some chalk markers one time. Where did you find them? I found them on amazon but then heard reviews that they don't was off. Which ones did you buy?? Sorry so many questions! Have an amazing wkend!! I also fell in love with these memo boards from Ballard but did not like the price. I have been brainstorming for something to use other than metal from a DIY store and just yesterday I passed this type of sign at Hoblob and thought they might work. Well low and behold I logged on this morning and there you have it. Thanks for such great ideas on a budget. I followed your instructions for the Thanksgiving signs, but Sam's would not print them. They needed a copyright release. How do you get away with that issue?

Adorable!! I pulled those same boards out of my catalog. :) They are still in my idea binder! Thanks for the inspiration!

I LOVE this idea! So adorable, and I have some of those metal signs from Hobby Lobby just sitting in my basement right now because we just moved and I don't want to put them back up. Thanks for the fun idea!!!

Anonymous, I did not run into that problem at Sams. Not sure why they would need a copyright since that poster is not copyrighted. The Keep Calm Carry On war poster is not even copyrighted because it was made before copyright laws. Maybe you can ask Jessica (the site where I got the prints) if she could send you release. Seems silly but they are too cute not to print. :) Also, maybe try printing them off at walgreens or walmart.

Yay! I have some metal signs that I bought on super clearance at HL a couple of years back. I made one into a chalboard but haven't done anything with the others. This is perfect! Thanks for the inspiration!
