Yet Another Chalkboard

I was completely inspired by Miss Mustard Seed's dining room chalkboard. I never would have thought to put a chalkboard in the dining room but hers looked great so I decided to try it. I'm so glad I did!

I took a picture off our living room wall that I did not like to make the chalkboard. We've had it for 5 years and bought it at Oops so it wasn't like it was a priceless antique. :)
I painted the frame with a couple coats of white paint we had in our garage.

While the white paint was drying I put a couple coats of chalkboard paint right on the glass. I didn't even mess with taking the picture out.

Once the frame was dry, I sanded the edges a little and put a "glaze" on it. When I say glaze I mean watered down acrylic craft paint. :) I brushed it on with a foam brush and wiped it off with a paper towel until I got the color that I wanted. I let it all dry overnight and then hung it on the wall.

Cody said, "of course you had to hang a plate over it." ;) I googled "dining room quotes" and this is one that I liked. Maybe it will inspire me to actually do what it says! Ha! (you can click on the pic to see it better) I just love all the inspiration found in blogland!

Your lucky that you have good handwriting. I would love to do something like this but mine would look awful because of my gross handwriting! I espeically love the chalkboard you have in the nursery!

I love it Shannon! I've been wanting a chalkboard for our kitchen ever since we moved in this spring, but have not been able to find what I'm looking for. Never really dawned on me that I should just make it. Considering my lack of craftiness, I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to attempt it or not!

I love all of your chalkboard creations. I actually thought of you the other day when I was looking at furniture on Craigslist. You know how a lot of the older vanity dressers have those huge, beautiful mirrors? I was thinking...oh, you could almost use chalkboard paint on that...and use it as a changing table. :)

Can you come over and just write on my chalkboard? It's so funny that I can paint and I have nice handwriting on paper, but it looks like junk on a chalkboard!

Anyway, it looks so much better than the print. Very classy and fun.

Neato Frito.......seriously, I use to be as ambitious (maybe not AS ambitious) as you.......my laundry and daily chores have over taken me. I think I should promise myself to do something creative today, it will make me happy and help me clear thy mind. Shannon, will you feel sorry for me and help name my baby>>>leave me a comment, I need baby naming help PRONTO.
Anyone else out there wanting to name our child can help as well. :)
