Westin's Story

On Thursday, March 4th I went to a follow up appointment at my doctor's office. I had been showing signs of pre-eclampsia the previous Tuesday. Sure enough they decided I needed to be induced that day. We headed downstairs to the hospital, checked in and settled in for pitocin and an epidural. I got both the epidural and pitocin pretty fast and at 4:45 am I was dilated to a 4.5. They thought that was good and I would have a baby by noon on Friday. However, Westin decided to stay right where he was and at 10:30 am, Friday, I was still a 4.5. With my blood pressure being high and some blood work showing more pre-eclampsia signs we decided a c-section was a good choice. Westin was born at 11:33 am on Friday, March 5th. He was 5lbs 14 oz and 19 and a half inches long. He was perfect!

I guess my body did not believe I not pregnant anymore because I continued to show pre-elampsia symptoms for the next 3 days. I was on magnesium for 24 hours so I was not allowed to get out of bed. Because of that, my healing has been very delayed. I don't have a very good memory of what happened those 5 days. We were able to come home late Monday afternoon. I'm very sore, still have blurry vision, elevated blood pressure and get dizzy at times but I am loving every second I spend with Westin. We are so thankful for him and love him so much! He is a champ at eating and sleeping so far so we hope it stays that way. ;) Here are some pictures of our boy.

First ride in the car seat on the way home.

The fun bow my mom gave us to put on our hospital door and now it is on our house door.
Of course I had to put him in his cradle right away.

Our first outing to his first Dr.'s appointment.

Snuggling with him.

He really wanted to make sure his paci did not fall out.

Cody loves swaddling him and Westin loves being swaddled.

Pretty blue eyes. (Taken with my iPhone)

Thank you all for all your SWEET comments! It has been so fun sharing this pregnancy with you! I love that you want to see pictures of him. :) Hopefully I will start feeling better and get back into blogging. Right now, I'm going to take a "maternity leave" for a week or two. :)

Magnesium Sulfate is miserable stuff! I was on that before and after my daughter was born (for similar reasons as you) and it was horrible. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that.

Westin is gorgeous!! Breathe in that new baby smell and enjoy every snuggle.

Shannon, Westin is just beautiful. (in a handsome, boy way!) He's just a tiny perfect little doll! What a time you had--- so glad everythings better now! The recovery from a c-sec is no fun, thats for sure! You just make sure you take it easy---let people help you and you just worry about you and that sweet boy of yours! :)

I know how you feel. Pre-eclampsia hit me at 32 weeks but I didn't know until 35 weeks. I was in the hospital for 6 days. The magnesium was like poison to my body. My memory was no good and I felt in a daze. Glad to hear that Westin is healthy, my little girl was too!!

Awww...he is SO precious and beautiful. Enjoy this special time and hope you start feeling better and more like yourself real soon. A C-section is a hard recovery but it will get easier with each passing day! Take good care of yourself and sleep when baby sleeps is my best advice, everything else can go.

Congratulations! I also had Pre-E with both of my sons. The first one I showed signs at 28 weeks and the second held off until 36 weeks. I delivered at 34 and 37 weeks respectively. With the first I had to remain bedridden afterwards as well. My BP went down in about a week to where I didn't have to worry about it. With my 2nd it took 6 weeks for it to normalize and it got dangerously high again about a week after delivery. I was on meds for the following 5 weeks. So definitely keep an eye on it and stay on your left side!

Good luck and he's beautiful!!!

how are you feeling now? i had preeclampsia as well and had to be induced at 37 weeks. i did the magnesium - those 24 hours were rough! taking a bath as soon as I could get out of bed was divine. when i got home, i had horrid headaches and found that my BP was still as high as ever. ultimately I had to go on BP meds, but was able to come off at my 6 week appointment. I hope you are better soon!

Oh he is so stinkin cute! I got "pre-eclampsia" after I delivered! Isn't that weird. I woke up one night with shortness of breath went in to dr office and the next day and my bp was 180 over 100... it was crazy and I was scared but I took bp meds for 2 weeks and I was good. I'm so excited for your family and you look rediculously good!

From one surprise C-section mama to another, I know EXACTLY how you're feeling! It's a whirlwind, isn't it? Congratulations and I hope you continue to heal quickly! Snuggle that baby all you can, they are teeny-tiny for only a short time!

He's a cutie! I had the same problem with my first baby!! I was in the hospital for a week before she was born and then things were WAY worse afterwards and I was readmitted 5 days after she was born, on mag, etc....it was AWFUL! I was on BP meds for 8 weeks after she was born. With my 2nd (she turned a year old yesterday), I had the high BP and was in the hospital for 2 weeks prior to her early delivery but things were MUCH better afterwards! Congratulations on your baby boy! Enjoy every second!
