Sunday Song

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Helen H. Lemmel

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth Will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Thro' death into life ever lasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion
For more than conqu'rors we are!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth Will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

His word shall not fail you He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well;
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth Will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

Helen Howarth Lemmel was born in England in 1863. She eventually married a wealthy man who left her once she became blind. At age 55 she heard a statement that inspired her hymn. "So then, turn your eyes upon Him, look full into His face and you will find that the things of earth will acquire a strange new dimness." She wrote the verses of the hymn the same week as it was "dictated to her by the Holy Spirit". She had a family friend write down all of her hymns before she forgot them because she had no way of writing. She wrote nearly 500 hymn and passed away in 1961 a few days before her 98th birthday.

9:50 PM Friday

I said I would let you know when Katie gets to come home and that time is here! She was told today that she will get to go home tomorrow!! Yay! Thank you, Lord! She is soooo ready to get out of the hospital. She will stay at her parent's house for the week with home care from the hospital and then go back for a check up. What an answer to prayer! I got to see her tonight and it was so wonderful. The past two times I was there she was in so much pain that she didn't even know we were there. This time she was talking, smiling and laughing. I was so happy to see her and so was Zach. He kept saying, "Mama, Mama, Mama" over and over and giving her kisses.

Again, thank you so much for your prayers! Words cannot even describe what they have meant to her whole family. Thank you!

3:30 PM Friday

Katie seems to be getting better every day! She is walking better on her own and only gets a little dizzy. The good news is that her head does not hurt anymore! She still needs to eat, eat, eat though. This will probably be my final update post. I will let you know when she gets out of the hospital though. Our Katie is becoming more and more like herself everyday. Thank you sooo much for all of your prayers and encouragement! We all know that is what got her through this. Thank you Lord!

6:20 PM Thursday

Today was a great day for Katie! She is getting better everyday. She had a lot of improvement today. She is still pretty weak but can walk on her own if two people are stabilizing her. She is more talkative, staying awake longer and watching T.V. She is not interested in reading or looking at the computer but that is okay. Her head is much better and does not hurt as much as it did yesterday when she is up. The great news is that Zach got to see his Momma today!

10:00 AM Thursday

Katie seemed to have a good night last night. She got a lot of sleep which is great! She ate a little breakfast this morning too.

She was able to get out of bed, with the help of three people, and sit in a chair while they changed her sheets. She was able to sit in the chair for about five minutes. This made her nauseous and made her head hurt. It did not hurt as bad as yesterday so that is some improvement. They will try again later today.

She is also staying awake for longer periods of time. She is making small improvements everyday!

Baby Reese's heartbeat is still good so that is great news.

Thank you for your continued prayers and comments. I have been printing out every email, prayer and comment and I know Katie will enjoy reading them when she is able.

I posted some pictures of Zach below so she could look at them until he is able to come visit. :)

What Zach Has Been Up To

While we wait for the doctors to see Katie today and let us know the plan for the day, I thought I would post some pictures of Zach from this past week.

Obviously she hasn't been able to see him in person but maybe she will be up to looking at some pictures.

He got to ride some rides at the mall.

Uncle Cody read him some books.

Zach learned how to say, "Bye Bye Alligator." It is absolutely precious!

He got lots of tickles from Uncle Cody.

Some shoulder rides from Daddy.

Zach got in a closet and pulled out his exersaucer. He actually liked playing in it! He was a little too big but it was a change of scenery for him.

He got to hang out with Papa and GiGi. He learned to say, "Papa" too.

Lots of baths!

He loved trying to wash the shampoo out by himself.

He had some fun dinners.

He loved watching cartoons in his rocking chair with his football. By the way-"watching cartoons" lasts about 10 seconds.....if you're lucky.

We love you Katie and are praying for you!

6:00 PM Wednesday

Today was a pretty good day for Katie! She was able to move from ICU to a regular room. Yay! She was also able to eat a little bit of a turkey sandwich but will need to eat quit a bit for dinner tonight.

The physical therapist came to try and get her to sit up but her head just hurt way to much. They are going to try again tomorrow.

Her head does not really hurt when she is laying down anymore but as soon as she trys to sit up it starts pounding. Her doctor said it was probably from all of her spinal taps. He said they can affect her fluid levels and they should be replenished by tomorrow so hopefully it will not hurt so bad to lift her head.

She has been more talkative today and when Jason called she was laying down watching T.V.

Things are looking up! Please pray that her fluids level out and she will be able to start moving around without her head pain.

Thank you!

9:20 AM Wednesday

It looks like last evening was a turning point for Katie. Jason said it is absolutely amazing to see the difference in her today. She didn't get to rest very well last night but this morning she is already asking for cereal.

Her neurologist has already seen her this morning and she was able to raise her right arm off the bed and give him a high five (bump his hand). She was also able to squeeze his fingers a little with her fingers.

The have taken the EEG machine off and it showed that everything was normal.

They are not going to try to do another MRI. The doctors said that seeing "clinical results" are better than seeing a picture of her brain. Major praise!

They will be taking her off her antibiotics today since they have concluded that this was viral and not bacterial.

Today is going to be a big day for her. They really want her to start moving around and trying to get up. She is really weak and stiff but she nodded that she wanted to try and get up. So they will be helping her sit up on the edge of her bed or in a chair to see if she can sit up by herself and making sure she can do this without making her head hurt worse.

They are also hopeful today that they will be able to move her out of the ICU to a normal room on a normal floor. What a huge praise! She will be able to get more uninterrupted sleep and obviously this means she is getting better!

Thank you Lord for continuing to heal Katie!

6:30 PM Tuesday

Major praises!! Katie was able to eat dinner tonight and put her glasses on for the first time since Friday. She was also able to talk on the phone to her brother. She said her head pain is a little better since this morning too so hopefully her brain swelling is going down. Thank you Lord and thank you prayer warriors!

Her doctors have pretty much determined that this was viral (not bacterial) since it has been resistant to the antibiotics. Possibly from a cold sore she had a week or two ago that went to her brain.

She still does not have feeling in her right fingers. On Friday she was only able to move her shoulder (not her arm) so the feeling has slowly been working its way back down her arm. Hopefully she will regain total feeling soon!

Please pray that she has a calm nights sleep and wakes up with less head pain and with an appetite.

3:40 PM Tuesday

I just got off the phone with Jason. They were not able to do a MRI because her back hurts too much and she was too claustrophobic.

The nurse did get her hooked up for her EEG. Katie was not happy about having all of those wires glued to her head. They will be monitoring her brain activity for 8 hours and watching for seizures.

They were also successful at getting her PICC line in.

Some great news: The OB did an ultrasound on Reese and everything appears to be just fine. She is measuring 26 weeks 4 days and Reese is 2lbs 3oz. Right on track! Thank you Lord!

Overall, Katie is really upset, frustrated, unhappy and in a lot of pain. She wants everyone (the Doctors) to leave her alone but unfortunately this day seems to be all about tests. Hopefully she will be able to get some uninterrupted sleep tonight and tomorrow while we wait on the test results.

She was able to eat a little bit of a muffin this morning and some sherbet. Her Dr. said she will have to eat some dinner tonight for them not to do a feeding tube. Please pray that she eats.

The results from her spinal tap yesterday showed her white blood cell count was going down so that is great news too!

So right now please pray for total comfort for Katie and peaceful, restful sleep.

9:15 AM Tuesday

I talked to Jason a little bit ago and Katie seems to be doing about the same. She is resting right now.

She did say for the first time today that her head pain is not a 10 out of 10 but a little better. She didn't give a number.

Some things to pray about today:

- She will be getting a PICC line today. Pray that this goes smoothly.
- She will also be getting another MRI today. She had a panic attack last time she had one (last Friday) and she is already worried about this one. Please pray for peace.
- She will also be getting an 8 hour EEG to monitor her brain for seizures. Obviously she will not like having all of that stuck to her head.
- Also, if she does not start eating today they will have to put a feeding tube through her nose. Please pray that they will not have to do this and she will want to eat.

Thank you! I'll update again once I know something more.

4:30 PM Monday

The good news today is that Katie seems to be getting a lot of restful sleep. She did not even wake up when they did a spinal tap (a miracle!) and took some blood. She did open her eyes and say, "Happy Birthday". Today is Jason's 30th birthday! :)

Today I am praying that she gets a good nights sleep without pain and that there will be some major progress tomorrow when all of the doctors return.

I cannot wait to show Katie all of your comments and prayers when she gets better! I know she will be so overwhelmed and so thankful.

11:35 AM Monday

Things have seemed to have calmed down a bit. Katie is off oxygen right now. They have also ordered an MRI for today along with the spinal tap to see if they are missing anything with that too. Reese's heart rate is still in the 150's.

9:30 AM Monday

We were hoping for some good news but Katie seems to be doing a little worse today. Her head pain is still extreme and the pain meds do not seem to be working well. Her neurologist said she should have been much better after 3 days of antibiotics so he thinks that they are missing something. They are going to do another spinal tap today to try and find what they are missing.

One of her IV's has already collapsed so they are hoping to get a PIC line in today. Since it is Memorial Day they are not sure if the PIC team will come in today or tomorrow.

Her oxygen levels have dropped so she is on oxygen now.

Her OB Doctor says Reese's heartbeat is still good so that is good news.

Please pray that the Doctor's will be able to find out what the cause is ASAP so they can begin treating her more effectively.

Thank you for praying and for all of your encouraging comments.

8:45 PM Sunday

My parents just left the hospital and there is not really anything new to report. She appears to be a little weaker, still in a lot of pain but she did eat 1/2 a cup of Jello. They still have not gotten any test results back. The holiday weekend is kind of slowing things down a little. Hopefully we will know something tomorrow.

Her primary doctor is no longer an OB but a neurologist. However, they have listened to Reese's heartbeat four times today and she is still doing good.

Please pray specifically that Katie would get some relief from the pain in her head, to re-gain feeling and control of her right hand, and for the doctors to get the test results back so they can find out what is causing her brain to swell.

Update on Katie

As of 11:30 this morning, Katie is stable. She is not worse but really not any better either. Not really any change. Her brain swelling has not seemed to have gone down because she is still describing her pain as a 10 out of 10. They finally gave her some morphine to help with the pain so she could sleep. She woke up wanting Jello so that is great news. That is the first time she has been able to eat since Thursday. She seems to be re-gaining some movement in her arm (able to lift it up) but her hand is still numb and she has no control over her hand. Her doctors have said this is really rare and they only see about one pregnant women with encephalitis a year. They have not gotten any lab results back to determine what they are treating yet. They are hoping to get some back either today or tomorrow. Some will be back in a week and some will take a month or longer.

The OB doctor has been monitoring Baby Reese's heartbeat and said it is normal. This is a praise!

Please pray that they will get the lab results very soon, so they will know exactly what they are treating and that the extreme head pain can be relieved.

Cody and I are in LR at my parent's house with Zach. Zach is doing great just playing around and loving being with his Gran and G-Daddy.

Thank you for praying!

Christina's House

This post contains a lot of picture too! :) I wanted to show you some of my favorite places in Christina's house. This is in her entry as you walk in the front door.

This cute little cabinet is on the other wall in her entry.

I love this old hutch that she has. I think it was her husband's grandmother's.

We actually have the same chandelier in our eating areas. I love her red walls.

I think this is so cute at the end of her kitchen. A pretty "bulletin" board with a platter hanging over it.

I have always loved this rooster!

A little bit of her pig collection.

I love this sign over her kitchen window.

Who wouldn't love a working jukebox in their kitchen?!

That concludes our tour! :) I knew you would love her style just as much as I do. Here is just a fun fact: I counted 17 items that she has bought from Oops when she has been up here visiting. We love that store!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Weekend!

Christina's Nurseries

This post contains a TON of pictures!

Lets start at Baby Logan's nursery. When he wasn't sleeping he spent most of his time smiling.

I absolutely love his crib! Christina picked out all the fabrics and had the bedding and window treatments made.
Her husband, Trey, built this bookcase! Isn't it amazing?

Trey painted and distressed this changing table to match the bookcase.

This is another favorite of mine. I love this picture frame. I actually think this is a picture of Jay. :) This nursery used to be his but is now Logan's.

Love this corner with the chair and end table. Trey also made this end table and painted and distressed it!

Now, on to big brother, Jay's nursery.

Wouldn't it be so nice to have someone like Trey in your family? :) He also made/painted/distressed this bookcase and matching end table. He actually didn't make the children's furniture but he painted and distressed it. Christina and I actually found those at TJMaxx one time and the hooks above the bench are from Oops.

Another picture of Jay snuck in here. He is just adorable!
This rocking chair was Jay's great grandmother's and is beautiful.

I love Jay's bedding too.

I love his crib too! It was just a regular ole brown crib that Trey (of course!) painted and stained. Christina has plans for larger artwork above his crib.

I think her two nurseries are some of the cutest I have ever seen. I love her style. Come back Friday to see some pictures of her other rooms. I took some pics of my favorite spaces so be prepared for another picture overload post! :)

Fun Weekend

I was off work this past week so I got to spend three days with one of my best friends and her family. Christina and I have been friends since 7th grade! She has two precious little boys, Jay who is 17 months and Logan who is 9 weeks.

This pictures were taken on my old camera so we have major red eye. :)
Here we are with Logan and Jay. They are so cute and sooooo good! Christina and Trey are great parents. We had so much fun hanging out, eating, laughing and eating some more.

She also gave me my birthday present. My birthday is not until JULY! She is on top of things this year! :) She gave me this cute flower pitcher. I put some of my anniversary flowers in it. I love the polka dots!

She also gave me this "bird on a stick"! :) I have never seen one of these before and I love it! It looks perfect beside one of my nests. She knows me too well because she got me a calendar that has birds on it and a bird cookie cutter!

On the way out of town I was able to stop at an antique store. I found four of these mini bird cards for .25 each.
I got another floral frog for $3.00 too.

I actually have no idea what this little book is but I thought it was pretty neat for $2.00. I was hoping it might be a hymnal.

Does anybody know German or anyone who speaks German? Is this even German? You can click on it to enlarge it to see if you can read it.

Christina has got two of the cutest nurseries I have ever seen. I'll be posting pictures of them and some pictures of her house on Wednesday. It is absolutely adorable.

Sunday Song

Be Thou My Vision
Irish Hymn, c. 8th Century

Be thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art;
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
Walking or sleeping thy presence my light.

Be thou my Wisdom, and thou my true Word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, and I thy true son,
Thou in my dwelling, and I with thee one.

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven's joys, O bright heaven's Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Front Door

My Dad was able to hang my "No Soliciting" sign this past weekend. We put it right over the doorbell so there would be no confusion. :)

Isn't it funny how sometimes you do not notice something until you take a picture of it? I have already bought a new doorbell. I didn't realize ours was so bad! :)

Okay, remember the big debate over the door. I think it would be safe to say that 95% of you thought I should just leave it white. I was starting to agree with you.
BUT, the 5% of you who thought I should paint it black were pretty convincing! We went for it! I am soooo glad we did. I love seeing it every time I walk in the room.

It is so much warmer in there now. I really like it now! Thank you all for putting your 2 cents in. I read every comment so thank you for taking the time to comment. Whether you thought I should paint it or not, you helped me decide. Thanks!

Flea Market Finds

My mom and I got in some fun shopping this past weekend. We both got some great finds at the local antique stores and flea markets. I should have taken a picture of her finds! I will next time for sure.

I found this small basket for $3.00. We used it for our silverware that night.

I got another plate to match the one I found a couple of months ago. This was also $3.00. The owner was driving a hard bargain on this one. She wanted $7.00 for it but I stuck to my guns. :)
My mom and I might have fought over this $5.00 basket. She let me win because she had gotten one about the same size the day before. Neither of us can pass up a good basket.

I found these four jelly jars for $2.00. LuLu posted some good ideas with what to do with these.
This is how I used them last night for Family Night.
I love seeing fun ideas of new things to collect. Thanks LuLu!
