Switcheroo

I think I might have entered the "nesting" phase of pregnancy. I am driving myself insane trying to clean out the office to get it ready for West. For some reason it has to be done now. :) The Lord is really teaching me patience in the process.

My mom agreed to take our desk and they will be up here this week so I wanted to send it back then. The only thing I could think to do was to get a small secretary desk to put beside my side of the bed. I didn't want to combine a guestroom with an office but I still needed an area to keep bills and office related things. This is the desk I had to consolidate into a secretary:

My next step was finding a secretary. Oh my word. Those are few and far between. I had my mom looking in her town and I looked all over mine. I finally found one at an antique store. It was the perfect size and to make it even better, it was half off! It is not the color I was looking for but that is a project for another day. Here it is beside our bed:

It is obviously taller than Cody's table but my lamp is shorter so I think it works. Plus I do not like matching nightstands. (Oh, I also changed out our bedding to our "winter" bedding)

It actually holds most of our office supplies. Another reason I wanted a secretary as opposed to just a chest of drawers was because I wanted to be able to put our wireless printer underneath. So I needed to skirt the desk.

I just used a tension rod and some left over fabric I had. I didn't even hem the sides or the bottom. I wish I could tell you that I made the rod pocket with my sewing machine, hem tape or at least fabric glue.....
Nope! I just used blue painters tape. :) I am all for quick and easy!

Oh Shannon!!! It is soooo pretty. I adore it! And it looks perfect by your bed. The little skirt is darling as well.

The Euro pillows on your bed...what are you using for shams on those? I can tell they are very textured, but I can't tell what they are? Chenille? Very pretty.

ha! I love that you did it quick and easy! My kind of girl! I love the idea of a secretary! We bought a computer armoire to put in our formal living area when we moved in because we didn't have the space for a desk. It has worked out, but it would be nice to have an office.

Love that you skirted it! So pretty!

That secretary desk is really beautiful! I even kind of like the color as is - it seems to work with the bedding colors, at least in the pictures. Very pretty!

Girl I went through this at the same time last year! Part of me wishes I could do it again this year! I can't believe that I put up a 9ft tree and Christmas decorations all by myself while 7-8 months prego! Meanwhile my house was SPOTLESS~ ha!
I too have become an expert at "rigging" things just so I don't have to pull out the ol sewing machine!
Take it easy!

You are adorable. I love your creativity and looking for the short cut ways to do things...who would even know? Well, I guess we're all in on your secret!

You know, I feel like I'm in the nesting stage too, and I'm not even pregnant...I think for me, it's just this time of year...

Have a blessed day!

It's beautiful Shannon!! I actually picked up a dark colored secretary at a yard sale this summer for $5.

$5!!

I was so thrilled to get it. The only thing is that it has drawers to the floor, so I couldn't put anything under it, and use a pretty skirt, but I'll probably need the drawers anyhow. We're moving to a much smaller house soon, so I'm also looking to swap out my desk.

Yours looks great!

Oh my gosh, and so does the bedding. I love the plates on the wall too.

It's a beautiful piece of furniture and I love it next to your bed. I think the different heights give your "nightstands" a more interesting look. Where did you get that fabric? I'm looking for some like it for a project.

Shannon - I love it! I prefer mismatched bedside tables, and I actually like the fact that your lamp is a smidge taller. I am all about some symmetry, but at the same time, I like a little spice. (I'm sooooo spicy and rebellious...yeah right). What are you going to do with it..paint it? Stain it? And, oooh, looks like it's getting new jewelry, too, right? Ok, so let's see if we can get this done by tomorrow....you can't just post something like this and leave us hanging...I know you are pregnant and all, but, c'mon.... (I'm one to talk, right...HAHAHAHAHA!)

Your new secretary desk is awesome! I have one in my bedroom also, an old one that used to be my FIL's desk when he was a child. They're timeless.

I love the idea of skirting the bottom of the desk...you are sooo clever! Way to go, it looks great!

We also wanted a secretary for a small space and it took us forever to find one! I agree with you, when the space is tight, they can hold a lot and work wonders. I love that you used blue painters tape for it :)

It looks so cute. If only all my desk stuff would fit in a secretary I would be doing good. I have way more downsizing to do before I can turn my office into our nursey. Where has all this stuff come from is what I want to know (tee-hee).

Very cute and practical. I have been looking for a secretary for a long while, too. It has to be narrow and fit this particular wall I have in mind. Maybe someday.
Sounds like you are getting everything organized. Can't wait to see the nursery.
