Guest Room Closet Solution

You may have noticed the poll I set up on the sidebar. We find out this Wednesday what we are having.....what do you think it is?

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that my Dad and I came up with a solution for all of this:

This is all the decorative accessories that I rotate in the house throughout the year. I was using the changing table for shelving but the accessories were starting to take over. I wanted our guests to be able to at least hang up their clothes and put their suitcase in the closet.

So my dad built these shelves for me! They are as wide as the closet and deeper than normal so they can hold a lot of stuff.

I didn't even paint them because I didn't want to wait for them to dry and I knew I would be covering them up.

I looked around the house and found some white sheers that I had never used. They were always too short for our windows so I put them on a tension rod and now everything looks nice and tidy.

I can just pull it back when I need to get something. Now our guests can actually use the closet. This makes me so happy. :)

You have got to love dads.
I'm getting ready to do the same thing to a coat closet but I will be using it to storage extra food. My dad will be building the shelves also.

Can't wait to find out Wed whether it's a boy or girl!!

We find out Thursday and I'm just counting down the hours now! We "borrowed" an idea from one of your recent commentors about having a Gender Reveal Party! We are going to have the dr's office call in the gender to our bakery and they are going to put a pink or blue layer of icing in the middle of a double layer cake. Our appointment is early Thur morning and we are going to wait until 6:00pm to find out with the rest of our family! It will be the longest day ever!

Love the closet shelves too. I might "borrow" that idea as well!

I love this idea! I’ve been thinking about doing the same thing in our guest bedroom for our tools and supplies (we don’t have a garage or shed yet…) I had been using cubes…but when those fell over I knew I would be in need of something else in the near future. Thanks for the inspiration and affirmation that this can work in a real space!

Dad did a wonderful job. Makes so much more of the space. Be sure to get everything done that you want to before baby because you won't want to after. You will choose rocking and loving on the baby over a closet redo or some times the laundry! HA! Have a great week.

Brilliant. Dads rule.

I voted! Can't wait to hear what you find out! Are you going to have them tell you right away? I read once about a couple who had the results written on a piece of paper and stuffed in an envelope...then the couple went to a bakery, gave the card to the pastry chef, and had the results of the u/s written on a cake as a surprise! How fun does that sound?!

The shelves look so great and space-efficient. Good thinking to hang something in front of them to seal it from the rest of the closet! I have the TINIEST closets imaginable so I am forced to create storage where you wouldn't normally think of it. I love your idea!

I voted for a boy! I just have a feeling Mr. Z is going to have a playmate to rough house with!

Your shelves are great. Doesn't it feel good to get organized! I realized so much of my anxiety was pent (sp?) up in things simply not being organized. So, I'm on to make that happen more..."progress not perfection", right?!?

Thinking of you daily.
