Craft Fair Finds and Nursery Peek

Can I just tell you something you already know? There is a much bigger selection of baby girl things than baby boy things! That's okay though because it makes the hunt all the more fun. A couple of weeks ago my mom came up and her, Lindsey and I went to our local craft fairs. We started at 6:30 am and finished around 5 pm and I think we saw about two booths that had boy things. ;)

My first buy for West was this precious bib. The lady thought I was crazy for choosing white instead of brown for the monogram but she loved it after she did it. :) Since it is sort of a seer sucker fabric I wanted it a little dressier than brown and blue.

My mom bought him this monogrammed blanket and two monogrammed washcloths. The pictures of the washcloths didn't turn out but they were cute. They were white with red and white gingham trim with a "W" on one and "West" on the other one. We actually lucked out at this booth because the lady was a little frazzled. We ended up getting another blanket monogrammed with "West" and another "W" washcloth that was a little bit off centered. So we got two blankets, three washcloths and the monogramming for $17.00! Bless her heart, she lost money on us.

I thought that once I finally got pregnant I would know exactly what I was doing in the nursery.
I mean, I've thought about it for years! I was a little surprised when I started really stressing out about it. I really don't stress out about anything so I was getting a little worried about myself. :) I just want this to be perfect. :) After much thought, we ordered this crib:

One thing I KNEW I wanted was a cream crib with solid sides. The problem was that I found two cribs that fit this description. Cody thought they looked exactly alike but you know how that goes. They were completely different but I woke up one morning and knew that this was the crib. :)

While my mom and I were looking at cribs one day I saw a tassel that reminded me of a picture of some bedding that I had torn out of a Bassett catalog. I had intended on getting it for our master bedroom in the very, very, very distant future but when I saw that tassel, I just knew it would be perfect for a nursery. This is the bedding:
I LOVE this fabric combination! I really never thought I would use brown in the nursery for a boy or girl but I just love this. I have found the toile fabric and am on the hunt for the plaid. I can order it from Basset but it is pricey! I haven't started looking for a coordinating chocolate fabric but I don't think that should be too hard. Soooooo, any suggestions for wall color? Right now I'm thinking just a light, neutral, warm brown color. Do you have a specific color name that you think would look good?

P.S. Thank you for your suggestions on freshening up the cradle. I plan on using the products you recommended. Thanks!

Oh how pretty! You have got great taste! Everything will look awesome for your little guy:)

that will look perfect! Love those colors! I remember when we were picking bedding for the first one, we lived in a rental and the carpet was burgundy! So I picked bedding that wouldn't clash. All I can say, is good thing we had a girl, the bedding wasn't very "boy"!

That is gorgeous! I love it! I cannot wait to see how it all comes together. I wish I lived closer to you because I would go fabric shopping all the live long day! Haha! LOVE the bib...gotta have seersucker!

Good Morning Shannon!
Oh I am so happy for you and your family! I have not had a chance to send my heart felt well wishes, please forgive me for the delay.
Your crib is darling and I love the brown! It will be perfect for your son!
What great buys you have from your craft fair. He will look so cute in his little bib and soft blanket.
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne

Love your finds - the blue and white bib is precious! I also love your unexpected twist on the nursery. I'm excited to see it come together!

So fun! And I am with you - finding boy things is a much harder task, especially when you don't want to use primary colors. Was Old English suggested for the cradle? If not, that is what I would use.

Yay, so glad you've got the ball rolling on the nursery, and that we get a peak! Cute ideas, love the crib! The crib choice was harder than I thought it would be for us, too.

Did you guys go to War Eagle?!? If so, did you get anything else fun?

Ooooh, girl! I love, love, love it! When I looked at cribs while we were cycling recently, I thought that I too wanted one with solid ends. I never realized how few and far between they are! Love the crib though. I'm not sure what color flooring you have but with those colors and a light crib, what about painting the walls a chocolate color or an almost chocolate color (like a bark brown)? Oh, it'll be purdy no matter what!!!

So excited for y'all!

I love all of your choices, what a lucky little boy!
Just a little note... I have a crib with solid sides for my daughter and on mine there is no place to tie on a bumper to the corners. If you tie it onto the first rung then you're left with some space between the bumper and the solid side, which seemed dangerous to me, so I just did without a bumper. My friend has a solid side crib for her son and it has little slats cut out for that reason, so she doesn't have a problem. I couldn't tell by your picture, but just something to think about if you're having your bedding custom made.
I'm sure whatever you do will be gorgeous!!!

I love the crib you picked out. Beautiful!

You will find that there is very little for a boy and so much for the girls... oh well, it will still be loads of fun looking for that sweet baby boy.

I like the white on the bib too.

I love all the monogramed cuties! The crib is gorgeous and I know his room is going to be FABULOUS!

I can't wait to see his crib with his bedding in it! I'm due January 14th with a baby boy! What's your due date? The bib looks so cute! I own a monogramming store with a friend of mine so I monogram everything!! It's a huge addiction of mine! (Check out paisleymonogram.com)

That crib is super cute! I love the solid sides, I have never seen those before. They look really classy.

The bedding is also cute, and I agree that it would look perfect in a nursery!

As for wall colour, I think a neutral brown colour would be nice. You can then add some pops of colour with accessories. That's what I did in my son's nursery and I love it!

The bib is great! Love the crib you chose and the bedding colors. I know what you mean about not finding much out there for baby boys. There are always tons of girl things to buy, but not that much cute boy stuff. I found some on etsy from my grandsons ( burp cloths, onesies).

I love it! There's nothing like seersucker on a sweet little (or big) southern man!

You are so right about the boy/girl stuff. I've always said I'd go broke if I ever have a girl! Good thing we just found out this one is another boy! I love the crib you picked out! I think the bedding will look great with it!

I would definately go with a neutral wall color so you can change accessories in the future as he grows. We went all out on the walls of the nursery for our first little boy(it was 3/4 sea green and 1/4 sky blue with painted fish and a border, etc) and had to repaint when he decided he liked Cars!
Can't wait to see how it all turns out!

So beautiful and yes there is TONS more for girls than boys!! With two boys I feel your pain. I shopped a lot at Gymboree and baby Gap when they were little. Gymboree was the biggie since you could get all matching items and earn Gymbucks! I always try to have a great selection for the boys when I do shows. It is hard finding boy fab though.

Love the crib. Check the production date though. A friend of mine had one and it was recalled. I thought your looked familiar and sure enough it is the same crib. I am sure nobody would be selling a recalled crib but it is always best to make sure when you receive it. Here is the link.

holy cow, 6:30 to 5:00 shopping, that's a long time! Were you worn out? How fun though, enjoy it before your sweet baby gets here! I love flea markets and there doesn't seem to be any in my neck of the woods! Love the crib, love it and the bedding, great choices!

Pamela said...

Was just thinking, if you can not find that plaid fab maybe think abt finding one that has the brown and gold/yellow/tea stain color and a blue. I think the blue could easily be worked into that color scheme and would add that baby boy touch to it but he would still be able to grow with it.

Love all your baby finds and I am sure everything is going to look GREAT!!! Yeah! So happy for you :)

Love it! Westin's room is going to be just precious! Just a little FYI, I work at an embroidery shop in Sdale if you every want to get anything done for Westin :)

Love it!!! I'm currently redoing our master bedroom and just bought fabric for drapes very similar to the fabric on the comforter. I also bought two complimentary fabrics (one toile, and one stripe) for our throw pillows. All of the fabric was at Joann for 30% off last week. I'm painting our walls a very, very subtle blue. Benjamin Moore's ice blue which has a lot of gray in it if you want to go that route. B.M.'s Manchester Tan is one of my favorite neutrals.

And yes, as a mommy of two little boys it is so much harder to find cute boy things. Gymboree and Janie & Jack are adorable places to find adorable things....but expensive! Blessings!

For your wall color, Sherwin Williams "Latte" should do the trick. It's a beautiful shade ... kind of like coffee with LOTS of cream.

Awwww Shannon I love the brown! I cant wait to see what you do for Baby West. His crib is justperfect too. Dont worry about that stress thing..it's called Mommyhood...hehe Welcome to the club~

The bib is adorable! And the blanket is so cozy. It is true...much more for girls in baby world. A lady in a local boutique said to me.."You mothers just don't dress your boys anymore..." Well, some of us do! :) The hunt is so much fun! The crib is beautiful.

Suzanne said...

Hey Shannon!
You are so right about the boy/girl things! They have such a tiny section for them. Dress him in the cute little dressy outfits as long as you can. I am sure if Cody is anything like my husband by the time he is 2/3yrs. no more "girlie" outfits as my husband calls them.
I love the crib!! Beautiful! I am sure it will all come together & look beautiful!
God Bless!

I don't think we have met and I can't even remember how I stumbled on your blog but I had to tell you this...

I have two of those cribs! I did my daughter's nursery in that Bonavita Cabana furniture 2 years ago and we have another baby girl coming in December. I knew I would never find another crib I liked as well so I ordered another set of it. So my two girls will have rooms that join by a bathroom and the same furniture. Then to make it even more crazy, the new nursery bedding has been done in a pink and brown toile just like your boy version. We have such great taste!! The paint color I used is called Nuthatch from Sherwin Williams. It is a carmel brown that looks awesome with that crib. Email me if you want and I will send you some pictures. Best of luck to you with everything!! Aren't nurseries so much fun to decorate!!!

I love the crib! Take a look at Behr Riveria Sand. It's a beautiful golden color that I think would look great with your toile.

I love your taste in the crib and the fabrics! It will be awesome for your little guy! I agree with the previous comment - the Behr Riviera Sand is a great color and still very neutral. Let us know what you choose!

Beautiful fabric and crib! Can't wait to see it all put together. I'm sure you can't either. :) I really liked your new baby finds.

Love the bedding! Too cute! And the crib is beautiful. We ordered Bonivita furniture for Ava (we found out it's a girl...did I tell you that?) and really love it! It's made so well. We used Ben Moore Brookline Beige from National Home Center as our "base" neutral throughout our house. It is deep and rich, without being too dark. And it has a totally brown undertone-no gray. So it matches all shades of brown and tan. Good luck! Can't wait to see the final result!!!

Hi Shannon! Just love that crib!! We have a solid sided crib as well. I adore it. It has survived four babies, and is just about to be retired. Just one word of advice...it sounds like you are planning on having your bedding custom made (beautiful fabric, by the way) and that is good because solid sided cribs don't have the same "spacing" for crib bumper ties that regular cribs have (there are not corner posts which is one of the places that crib ties are put on mass-produced baby bedding.) So make sure you measure accurately where those ties need to go. It will save you a lot of headache. Trust me on this one!

Whew. Sorry such a long comment...I'm just so excited for you!

I like brown for your main color pallet. Toss in some blue and orange shades, it will look fantastic.

Keeping the walls neutral is a good idea. I would bring color in with accessories.

Having 2 boys, I know what you mean about finding cute baby boy things. I've always dressed mine in smocked and appliqued clothing. It's hard to find precious things but they are out there...just not cheap:) My youngest has a great brown in his room. We used Valspar Faint Maple. His room has an antique cowboy motif and it's perfect...good luck on finding the right color!

I love how the bedding is sophisticated. It will really grow with your son. And down the line if you have a girl you can throw some brown transferware plates on the wall and viola! I treasuremy monogram pieces for the kiddos, no matter how stained you will not want to throw out.

What cute finds for West and I'm sure whatever you do with the nursery will be perfect as you always due a good job. Can't wait to see.

I think the plaid fabric will be a cute masculine touch in his nursery! I would recommend Gobi Desert by Behr. It's a great light, neutral, warm brown shade.

Jeni said...

That crib is the most beautiful of cribs! You are so lucky.

Somethings never change...there is always TONS of girl stuff. But I fell so so in love with boy things when I had Ben...you are a good hunter so no need to worry.

Blame the stress on your hormones...ha ha...not that I would know, but PMS is bad enough. Sorry if that's TMI...anyway, I like the fabric colors that you are choosing. I think a rich taupe or warm chocolate color (not too dark) would be nice for the walls.

hmmm...it sounds like there is a market out there for baby boy items. Let's put our minds together and come up with a million dollar idea. :)

I think a golden color like the sand mentioned above would look great in a boy's room to keep it light but coordinate with the golds and browns.
