Thank You and Backyard Project

First of all I cannot tell you how much your prayers and words of encouragement have meant to me and my family. Thank you so much! God has been good and given so much peace. If you haven't been over to Katie's blog to read the words Katie spoke at Reese's Memorial then you need to. You will have to scroll down a bit. Also, do not miss the slideshow of beautiful Reese.

I hope to get back in the flow of blogging again soon. I have missed it and have missed you! I may not be posting three times a week like I was but hopefully it will be on a more regular basis. This summer Cody and I took on a big project. We decided to landscape our backyard. It was hard to get a good picture of the whole project because the fence is so long.

I didn't take a before picture but just imagine a fence with no landscaping. With his parent's help, we planted several varieties of low maintence plants including domestic nandinas, witch hazel, lantana, a butterfly bush and one crepe myrtle.

I hope to find a bench at the local craft fairs this fall to go where the board is laying. These plants will fill in and some of them could get as high as the fence.

Next spring I will fill in the blank spaces with some plants too. It was just too late in the season to plant them now.

This is an older picture of our cannas because now they are as tall as the rail and some are even taller. My parents brought these up from their yard and we planted them about two months ago. They were probably 8-12" then. They grow so fast!

My favorite part of our project are the three rose bushes we planted. I have a light pink one, dark pink one and white one. I told Cody to plant the white one in the middle but somehow that got lost in translation. ;)

I love the iron piece Jason and Katie got me for my birthday too. The roses are already about up to the middle of it. I have been able to keep about 3-4 roses in a vase all summer long.

So glad you are back. I was praying for you all this morning in the car. Having buried my brother, I can understand the pain of loss and my heart aches for anyone that has to feel that.

Mr is wanting to do a border around our fence like yours - mainly to keep the dogs from running up and down it and terrorizing the pugs next door. It will add visual interest to an otherwise boring backyard. Guess I just need to get off my duff, huh? :)

It's so good to see a post from you. I've missed you!!

Love the landscaping. I would love to do something like this in the back, but I'm afraid our English Mastiff would find it to be a playground and ruin it. :)

Your family is always on my mind and in my prayers.

Welcome back! You've been missed as well as prayed for. Your yard looks great! It will be fun next year to see all of the new plants grow and fill in. We just moved into a new home and it needs some serious landscaping help! I have been brainstorming ideas and thinking about a plan with Tru. We'll see how it comes together. We went to our local nursery to see what types of plants they have and I was excited to see that they actually carry limelights. :)

My heart goes out to all of your family. I started watching the slideshow & I had to turn it off b/c I was bawling. I just can't take stuff like that. Reese will forever be their little angel.

Your garden is beautiful!

Welcome back! You have a great start on your landscaping. In a year or two it should be nicely filled in.

We have two varieties of cannas and they are at least 8 feet tall! One is green with yellow flowers, the other is purple with red flowers.

Lantana is great...it's really pretty, and it can stand up to this southern heat!

Sometimes, when I'm motivated, I'll put pots with seasonal flowers into the blanks spaces in the flower beds. That way I don't have to dig them up out of the ground every season. It's easier to me to just pull them out of a pot and stuff some new ones in. ha!

Thank you for showing us the pictures of your back yard. It looks wonderful. I hope you are finding some comfort in the beauty.

I'm so sorry that your family has had to face such a momentous loss. It really is hard to imagine how such sorrow could be faced if it were not for the hope that we have in Jesus. I am so grateful that your family knows the Lord and is able to look forward to seeing Reese again one day. God bless you all.
