Fun Weekend

I was off work this past week so I got to spend three days with one of my best friends and her family. Christina and I have been friends since 7th grade! She has two precious little boys, Jay who is 17 months and Logan who is 9 weeks.

This pictures were taken on my old camera so we have major red eye. :)
Here we are with Logan and Jay. They are so cute and sooooo good! Christina and Trey are great parents. We had so much fun hanging out, eating, laughing and eating some more.

She also gave me my birthday present. My birthday is not until JULY! She is on top of things this year! :) She gave me this cute flower pitcher. I put some of my anniversary flowers in it. I love the polka dots!

She also gave me this "bird on a stick"! :) I have never seen one of these before and I love it! It looks perfect beside one of my nests. She knows me too well because she got me a calendar that has birds on it and a bird cookie cutter!

On the way out of town I was able to stop at an antique store. I found four of these mini bird cards for .25 each.
I got another floral frog for $3.00 too.

I actually have no idea what this little book is but I thought it was pretty neat for $2.00. I was hoping it might be a hymnal.

Does anybody know German or anyone who speaks German? Is this even German? You can click on it to enlarge it to see if you can read it.

Christina has got two of the cutest nurseries I have ever seen. I'll be posting pictures of them and some pictures of her house on Wednesday. It is absolutely adorable.

I have been following you for a few weeks now.. You are starting to get me into birds...big time! LOL My little girl has a shabby chic room and I am going to either paint a little mural of the song in Heavenly Highway Hymnals of "Birds in the tree tops" or either do it on a canvas some way to hang. Just an idea for you future child ;) haha. Its always great to think ahead!
My best friend lives in Germany..her husband is in the Air Force. I am pretty sure this is German. I will ask her to get someone to translate it. I will get back to you on it. ~ Allie

I liked my layout too and header and it's gone! Check out my post. Now I have to make a new one. I need to stop trying to be a computer guru!

You have the neatest posts!

I love that little songbook. It appears that it is probably German. I took some German in high school, but not enough to really understand this. I have an old boss that is German, so if you don't get what you need, let me know and I can try and track her down.

I love your little froggies...I want to find one here. I have been keeping an eye open but no luck so far. Your bird on a stick is too sweet and yes she does know you so well. I think its so funny I can be at a store and see something and know just the person it would be perfect for. Glad you had a great time with your friend.

My neighbor (who is in Germany right now) is German. I know a few other people are going to try for you, but if none pan out let me know!

ALVN of WhisperWood Cottage and Junkologie said...

Warning...this may not be entirely accurate! :) However, I think this is a book of folk songs. It says something about treasured songs in the title. In that small banner, it says something along the lines of "We will be one people...without distress and peril." Artur Kollitsch was the publisher.

So pretty, When I saw them I thought of you.
Hope you are having a great week. We are off to the UK tomorrow, so excited but dreading the flights...we have 3 with LONG delays inbetween each one! YUCK! Pray for my sanity and that the boys sleep.

Fun! I love the bird on a stick and those cards in the frogs are really cute!

Elfin said...

Hi Shannon,
I´m german and I can say you, that the book is from Austria. Kärnten is a part of Austria. The songs are especially about Kärnten, and I think, that are old songs, because the script looks old. The form of the lettern shows it.
I hope, I could help you. Sorry for mistakes, my english is not the best.
Best wishes from
Elfin

Wonder if the book has something to do with this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carinthia_(province)

Maybe a celebration of the union with Austria? Looks like it says something about love songs about Carinthia in the title...national pride, wanting to be brothers and help each other.

Really interesting! I love old things like this

I had to pull out the ol' German/English dictionary on this one, as my Deutsch is rather rusty. Actually, very rusty, but my curiosity was piqued on this one!

The last word in the title, Liederschatz, is for songbook treasury. The first word, Karnten, is a city (I believe) in old Austria.

I googled the date, October 10, 1920, and it looks like there was a land treaty made on that date. They must have been pretty excited to compose and bind songbooks about it!

Thanks for the treasure hunt you provided! I enjoyed it.
