6:00 PM Wednesday

Today was a pretty good day for Katie! She was able to move from ICU to a regular room. Yay! She was also able to eat a little bit of a turkey sandwich but will need to eat quit a bit for dinner tonight.

The physical therapist came to try and get her to sit up but her head just hurt way to much. They are going to try again tomorrow.

Her head does not really hurt when she is laying down anymore but as soon as she trys to sit up it starts pounding. Her doctor said it was probably from all of her spinal taps. He said they can affect her fluid levels and they should be replenished by tomorrow so hopefully it will not hurt so bad to lift her head.

She has been more talkative today and when Jason called she was laying down watching T.V.

Things are looking up! Please pray that her fluids level out and she will be able to start moving around without her head pain.

Thank you!

I have been reading and praying. I am thrilled that Katie is doing so much better.

My son had to have spinal taps during his cancer treatment and caffeine helped his spinal headaches. Has she been able to drink anything like a Coke? It might help. They told my son to drink Red Bull, but I think that might be a bit drastic.

I'll keep on praying...

I have been following your blog after reading Kelly's Korner. I have been sending prayers to Katie and the baby. After reading your post tonight, I wanted to let you know that if the headache continues to get worse when she sits up, ask the doctor to do a blood patch on her. A spinal can cause a leak and sometimes it will heal on its own but sometimes they withdraw blood and place it back into the leaking area. It is instantaneously better though she would still need to lie down for a few hours and not move to make sure the seal takes hold. I have had a leak after a spinal and it is HORRIBLE to sit up and so much better just to lie down and not lift the head. I hope this helps her if she would still need it come tomorrow.

Many prayers and thank you for the updates.

Many, many prayers for beautiful Katie and her baby. Please know that so many are praying for her and thinking of her. I pray that she heals completely and that God eases her pain and that it totally disappears. Peace be with Katie and her baby and prayers that she is herself very, very soon!!!

Psalms 34: "The righteous cry out, and the Lord delivers them out of all their troubles." Thank you God for hearing our cries and wrapping your arms around Jason's girls.

I had horrible headaches after a spinal tap, and they ended up saying that I had a side effect called a spinal headache. They had me drink a lot of caffeine at home but I couldn't stand up without the worst pain possible, and then I would start vomiting (every time) after being up for a few minutes. So, I went back to the hospital for an IV that had caffeine and something else in it. It made a huge difference. Hopefully, they will offer Katie something like that by tomorrow if she still can't lift her head. It's the worst pain I've ever had, and I had natural childbirth!!! Seriously. I'm praying.

I too have been following from Kelly's & praying for Katie.

I wanted to add - & see Cameron already did - about the 'leak' from spinal taps.

My sister-in-law had meningitis & discovered she had leaking from spinal taps. I don't remember what they did to fix it (but they did fix it!) - thought I'd toss that your way, like Cameron, just in case you can toss it someone else's way. :)

That is so good to hear that she's out of the ICU and that they are trying to get her up and around! Those spinal headaches are really bad!! (Not that I know from experience...just from having had patients with them.) It's amazing how a tiny little fluid imbalance like that around your brain can cause such major pain! I'll be keeping her in my prayers today. Y'all take care!

I am in total shock right now. i read your blog here and there, and as I checked it out today, I'm reading about Katie. The same EXACT -- EXACT -- thing happened to my good friend over this past weekend also. I mean, I can't believe it's the same exact thing. It's unbelieveable to me. My friend is doing much better today also. Hearing how well Katie is doing gives me hope that my friend, too, will be well on the road to recovery soon enough ! Thanks for sharing :-)
