Thrifting Finds

First of all, y'all are so sweet! My mom loved all of her B-day wishes and Andrew and Elizabeth have been so excited about all of their comments. The blogging world is the best! Andrew's goal, in his own words, is "to take me down." He is determined to get way more comments and views than me. Why does everything that siblings do have to be a competition? :)

I have not been doing much thrifting and shopping lately but I thought I would show you some of my most recent finds. I found this little red plate at an antique store a couple of months ago. I love the scene. I have it in my guest room for keys and change.

Back in November I won a gift certificate as a door prize from a local gift shop. I was going to wait on them to put out their spring items but instead I found this cute little white pedestal dish. Right now it is holding a candle but the possibilities are endless!
A couple of weeks after I found the red plate I found this green one. This one is more detailed around the edge. I think it was around $2.00. I couldn't pass that up. :)

One of my favorite finds lately has to be this sweet nest. I have never seen one like this. It sits up and also has a ribbon on the back that I could use to hang it on a knob or wall hook. I just thought it was so unusual and the flower reminded me of a hydrangea which is my favorite.

My biggest purchase was this brass headboard. I could not believe it when I saw the price tag marked down to $48.00! If you remember, my guestroom bed needs a headboard. I said it would just have to be something that I stumbled upon one day. I love it when things like that work out. Of course I will be spray painting it white. Or should I go black? Hopefully I can get that done this weekend.

And last, but not least, I won another giveaway! Jacki over at Well Kiss A Mule! gave away a cool oil candle and I was the lucky winner. It is made out of a cedar fence post! You can put whatever type of oil you want and can change out the oil and wick for different scents. It really makes your whole house smell great. Thank you so much Jacki!

Cool finds! I love that you're going to paint the headboard. I'd go white. I think. Maybe black. ;) I guess it depends on the color of your walls and such in that room.

I have an antique brass bed that was given to me by my grandparents. It was in a cottage they bought back in the 50s I think. Anyway, it's horrid. But my mom would have a heart attack if I painted it. I am not into brass, and it is a pain to keep polished, so I just left that bed at her house. LOL

Such great finds. Love them all!! I am one to always paint black but for your headboard I am thinking white. Are you going to prime it? Is the primer white? Perhaps prime it and then take a look at it and see if that is the color your looking for. If not got black. Perhaps now that I think about it the pillows would pop more with black. I'm sure it will turn out beautiful no matter what color. Have great weekend.

Hi Shannon, you really picked some great items. Your red plate has such a pretty scene on it, and the green one does has such great detail. And, what a bargain price that plate was. The headboard is going to look so wonderful in your guest bedroom. I think that white would be a good color for it. Congrats on your candle.

Have a wonderful weekend, Nicole

Awesome finds! I buy plates like nobody's business...I have a slight addiction to cute, cheap plates. And your little nest is adorable. I have a couple that sit up like that, and now I want to add a ribbon hanger and hang them up...so cute!

Happy Friday ~ Amanda

Looks like you have been hitting the gold mine lately. I have been doing a little antiquing myself and have come to find my little town is sort of known for that. I've really scored on a few things. I have not seen plates like your red one though. I would snatch that little beauty up in a heartbeat!

Great finds - can't wait to see how the headboard turns out! I wish I was bold enough to say paint it black but as you can tell from my posts I usually play things safe with white - ha ha ha!

Wonderful finds! I would go with white for the bed. I am normally a black paint person, but I think white would make it look older. Oh and that nest is too cute!
