Picture Re-Do....Again!

When I posted about these picture frames, several of you asked what I was going to do with the little one. I wasn't sure but I knew something would come to me. Well, on Sunday I decided to stick with the basics and frame something pretty and add ribbon to it. I also took pics of the step by steps instructions this time since I always forget that part.

STEP 1: Find an ugly picture that you can re-purpose. Usually from a thrift store.

STEP 2: Rip off the paper backing.

STEP 3: Pull out all of the staples with some pliers. (This is not hard!)

STEP 4: Keep the old cardboard backing and paint the frame.

STEP 5: Staple some coordinating ribbon to the back.

STEP 6: Probably the most important step. Decide what you are going to put in the frame. I could not decide if I wanted to go with Wendy's idea with the toile or use a picture of some old escutcheons from The Vintage Moth. I decided to figure out where I was going to hang it first so that I way I would know what would look best there.

STEP 7: The last step is to put the glass, new picture, and old cardboard backing back in. This is personal preference but I tape it all back in with painters tape because it is easily removed. I'm sure I will want to change the picture out at some point.

Hang it up and you are finished! I also added a bow to my ribbon. I decided on the picture of the escutcheons because it tied into the white platters.

I found the top platter at a thrift store and I bought the bottom one at TJMaxx and More when I went to my friend's baby shower. She knows that when I go visit her that more than likely I will be wanting to go there. If any of you are lucky enough to have a TJMaxx and More in your town as opposed to a little 'ole TJMaxx then you know what I mean!

Also, she always takes me to The Kitchen Store and I found this perfect little sign. I love the quote and especially the little bird sitting on top.

Do you like antique white plates and platters? Even better, do you like them hanging on the wall? I mean, really, who doesn't? Go check out how my friend Mandi hung them over her bed. She did a guest post on Designer Girl's blog. Leave her lots of comment love because I really want her to start her own blog! :)

SUPER cute- I love to re-purpose a frame from the thrift store. I re-purposed frames from goodwill for the silhouettes of the kids. Turns out they were home made frames and they were not all the same so the glass was a bear to fit back in them!

Love your ideas!

I have some pink and brown bunny toile that I bought at JoAnn's the other day (without having a clue as to what I was going to do with it...but it was too cute to pass up!)...this is a good idea to use at least a little of that fabric.

that looks awesome (even if you DID decide not to use the toile...just kidding!) I love the little sign. Very sweet and oh so fitting for your blessed nest!

I LOVE the platters, of course. I've never heard of a TJMaxx & More....hmmm....I'll have to hunt for one in my area. The picture turned out great! I am always collecting old, unique frames but never know what exactly to put in them. I have boxes of old frames.

This is a great tutorial! Your picture turned out very nice. Thank you for showing how to attache the ribbon as well as the bow to the picture frame itself.
I have several white dishes and platters that I have been slowly adding to my collection (mainly from thrift stores) and now paint swatches in hand for a laundry room make-over! I can't wait!! Please drop by when you can. I am in the middle of prep work now.
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne

Really fun and it looks great next to the white platters. I love plates, have some in my bedroom and our dining room.
Come see my master bedroom redo when you get a chance.

Shannon, your cute new picture looks just perfect right where it is...I love it!

I've also started picking up odd size frames/pictures from the goodwill. You never know when you might need to spray paint a frame for something!

I love the idea of a wall of plates and I'm a big plate lover anyways. I'm currently redoing a room and have thought about putting up all white plates above the bed. Mandi's wall was a great inspiration!

Hope you're having a great Wednesday!

HI Shannon! I love this picture re-do too! I thought about you a lot the other day while browsing at Tuesday Morning. They had a wonderful framed birds and nest picture that said "Bless our Nest". So pretty! Hugs, Vanessa

Really Cute! What a great idea with the frame.

Great idea...I never think of painting things a different color and that is so simple and inexpensive.

I believe Conway has a TJ Maxx and More. I drive there when I can, because it's way better than our TJM. My Mom just bought that same sign with the bird, a few weeks ago...I believe at TJM. :)

from a sow's ear to a silk purse---you make beauty and style from so many things that others would never look at twice. you are a clever girl!

Shannon, I need your help...again! I was going to email you about painting a frame, so funny that you just posted about it. I have these super nice expensive frames that my daughter's one year pics are in. Well, for some reason I picked ones with LOTS of gold in them. I really dont like them. Now I'm trying to get my son's pics framed and I need them to coordinate. I'm thinking about just painting my daughter's. Do you have any tips? They're pretty ornate. I bought some brown and bronze acrylic paint and thought I would sponge it on, but I'm not sure how this will turn out. What do you think? You can email me if you still have my address or just comment on my blog if you have a chance. Thanks so much!!

Okay...so...did you hang the platters with plate hangers or what? I have a platter that I would love to hang but am unsure how to. I'm so scared my things will fall down. I look at your blog ALL the time...I'm just not good at commenting. I love all your ideas! :)

Hey Shannon, thanks for the comment. I will try to water down the paint I bought, great idea, and try it on one frame. If it doesn't work I'll try to find some of the buff and rub stuff!! Thanks!

Thanks for mentioning my blog. Amanda did a great job with the plates and I agree - she should start her own blog. She is so talented, just like you! Great idea with the picture frame, you are very creative and I really like your blog and checking in to see what your next project will be.

Great idea. I love your "HOME" sign with the little birdie on top. Do you have a Home Goods Store near you? If so they have the cutest sign that says "Bless Our Nest" with a little nest with eggs at the bottom. I thought of you when I saw it and if I had my camera I would have snapped a picture. Its so cute and kind of looks like your blog sign.

great frame makeover and super tutorial! it's amazing how easy these things can be, but we're often so intimidated by them and just go out and buy something way overpriced and not nearly as personalized. thanks!

Hey, OK, hopefully this won't be too long of a comment. First off, I am in bible study with Christina who I just realized yesterday is 39weeks! She is absolutely the most precious, adorble thing! Such a woman of God!

OK, Second I saved your blog to my favorites when you were featured on Nester (good work by the way!). I fell in LOVE with the fabric you used on your cute little monogram frames. The link I saved always took me to that one post-I did not realize that until today. It was very exciting to see all your cute decorating projects you've been up to.

Where was I going with all this? Oh yeah, I have been hunting down that plaid silk ever since you posted because seriously, I just love it. Do you think that is the same fabric Nester has hanging in her kitchen?

oops, I misspelled adorable!

i have plates over the kitchen cabinets. They all are from family members. I have some things that were my great-grandmothers, grandmother and my mom. My mom actually let me have a breakfast plate of her china. I have my husband's family members represented with a plate as well. it's a great conversation starter and people find it interesting to know I didn't just buy them, they have significance to our family.
