Re-purposing Old Frames

How do you like these beautiful pictures from the 1970's that my Grandmother gave me? I'm sure you are very jealous!

I knew I could do something with them, I just didn't know what. I thought about it for a couple of weeks and decided I needed something beside our bed. I had thought about printing out something that said "His" and "Hers" and then hanging them on each side of the bed but that just wasn't working.

Soooooo, what is better than beautiful silk fabric, lovely ribbon and a monogram? Something that combines all three! First, I painted and distressed the frames.

Then I took some left over silk that I had from my dining room drapes from a couple of years ago and wrapped it around some picture mats (that doesn't sound like the right word but I'm drawing a blank?). Then I printed out our monograms on some card stock and cut them to fit the frames.

Not perfect by any means. They are a little off centered and the fabric is wrinkled but I am not that picky. Plus, they are not going to hang right beside each other. Lastly, I added some brown ribbon and hung them with an upholstery tack.

This is Cody's side. I need to change out the picture in the little frame because it is Cody and my brother acting crazy.....not really right for our bedroom.

Below is my side of the bed.

This was such a fun project and cost me under two dollars for the ribbon. It could easily be done with some thrift store frames and fabric that you already have.

That looks great!! I have some fabric in the "new" powder room that I was wanting to use as matting but didn't know exactly what I was going to put in the frame...hmm, maybe a monogram.

I love them and the ribbon is perfect. I love that you hung them on the wall, instead of them eating up space on your nightstand. They are awesome

Now for the important question: Where is all the junk that always ends up accumulating on both of our nightstands?! I read this post while sitting on my bed and then looked over at my own nighstand and shuddered. :)

Since you're such a fan of creating your own art I thought you might find this useful someday: http://www.briarpress.org/cuts/browse?m=free
