Lighten Up

After I put away my Christmas decorations I wanted to lighten up my decorations to feel a little un-cluttered for awhile. I got some of my nests back out and tried to use lighter colors. I was playing around with my camera the other day and took some pictures of some of the nests and bird decorations.

Sofa table

Kitchen ledge

Kitchen china cabinet

Office desk

Birdhouse from my Secret Santa, Sidz6Kidz

Kitchen wall

First cloche I ever bought, 4 years ago. It was clearanced at TJMaxx because of the chipped top.

Sometimes I do not know what my style is. I love the light colors of these photos but I also love black, dark brown and rich colors. I try to mix them the best I can but I do not know if it always works. I have really been feeling like I wanted to move to less decorations in light colors. It will be a slow process! :) It might just be that I want a fresh palette after all the fall and Christmas decorations. Do any of you feel this way after the new year?

Shannon,

I know exactly how you feel...I like differing styles too and it is always a challenge to blend them without overdoing. All my Christmas decor was put away by New Years day and I have left many surfaces bare...I was craving less clutter. I know it won't last long I will start filling them soon.

YESSSSS! I am feeling so claustrophobic lately with all this stuff on every counter, every shelf every table top. Right now, at this moment I can't stand any of it anymore. lol All your stuff looks so pretty though... I was looking at your photos thinking how much I love the browns and whites and blue eggs... so pretty. I love your photos! Are you enjoying your camera?? I LOVE MINE!

Shannon, I am just in awe of your decorating skills. I do not have different decor for different seasons (well, except for Christmas things), but I wish I did. Beautiful!

Morning Shannon,

I just LOVE all your birds and nests. You always pull every vignette together just perfectly (I struggle tremendously with that). I just love your style.

They look great!! I know how you feel, I like different styles and it's hard trying to put everything together so it looks nice.
Happy New Year!

I know exactly how you feel too! When Christmas was over, I was so ready to get out my other decorations and switch things up a little. I love all of your little nests and that bird candleholder is too cute! I like to mix and match light and dark things. I have a lot of the white, distressed looking accessories and find I like them the best when I do mix them with darker accessories. I say, do what you love because your home always looks so nice!

I so know what you mean. My house is reds and yellows and green mainly, except bedrooms, and there are times I want fun and whimsical, all muted and light, and then I love a sweedish home. Plus many more styles....I think if I had multiple homes I would be good.

Beautiful pictures I can see you are having fun with your new camera. I also have a hard time defining my decorating style. I just love pretty things that sometimes don't go together. I'm trying to be better about impulse purchasing.

I LOVE that wire cloche!

And I know what you mean about liking two styles. It's hard to know what to do sometimes to pull them together.

You have summed up exactly how I feel! Part of me wants less clutter, but a part of me like a "cottage-y" look, as well. I think it's just easier, though, to go with the less-cluttered look.

Your home is gorgeous, and I love all of your nests and cloches! Beautiful!

I just love all of your birds and nests! I agree with you about the need to be less cluttered after the holidays, and I struggle with the same things about liking warm rich colors, but then loving homes that are done in light tones even mostly white. (although that is not practical with my four little ones running around.) That's the fun of decorating though, isn't it? Switching things around and trying new ideas! Your home looks lovely!

Alex and Jill said...

I absolutely love color but when I see these pics, it makes me wish I could find a way to mix them as well, because all of the light blues and white are also fabulous.

My house still looks bare...just trying to decide what I want to do.

Thanks for the post...I'm feeling some inspiration! :)

I feel the same way. I just want a clean, fresh look now that the glitter is gone!

I remmeber seeing so many great decorating idea from your blog and thought I could really make this work. Thanks for the inspiration. Although, I am stumped on what to place in it right now? Its that time of year when your stuck in the middle of winter/spring? What would you recommend?

Shannon, your home is beautiful...it must be a reflection of the person living there! Can you believe that I do not own one single nest? I love all of yours and the way you have them displayed. My goal for spring decorating = more nests!

I just love your style and all of the nests! I think I need to fit those into my decorating style! I know what you mean about wanting to lighten things up sometimes. I have a lot of earth tones that are darker colors, but sometimes I want lighter colors! It's nice for a change after Christmas, too!

Just stopping by and thought I'd leave a comment...hope you don't mind.

I love all of your bird/bird nest decorations...beautiful!

I know just what you mean about loving light colors yet having dark colors as well. My style is pretty traditional yet I just love it all sometimes! It takes my husband and I so long to buy things...there's so many beautiful things out there that it makes it hard to decide. I do change rugs and different accessories according to season, that way I'm able to use a few different decorating styles.

I so look forward to your change-outs. The bird's nests are so sweet - looking forward to spring but also representative of new beginnings! I also have the itch for some different color schemes in my home and I'm struggling with the direction I want to go. Hi Shannon~
All of your birds, nests and cloches are beautiful, and I absolutely LOVE the lighter colors of everything! :) I know what you mean about wanting lighter colors. I've always loved them, but they seem even lighter and brighter after the dark colors of fall and Christmas, which are less "me". What's funny is I was never much into black spray paint until I started blogging, and saw all of the neat things you all do! Now I do like black more, but am trying to incorporate it into the style I love. So I also understand what you mean about wondering what your decor style really is! :) Sometimes it can be a little confusing! :) Anyway, sorry for the lengthy message, and have a good night!

Suzann @ Lavender and Roses said...

I have the exact same problem. I love the light colors and I am all about unclutter. But, on the flip-side, I crave deep rich colors as well. I have to do a mix thing. I'm just starting to incorporate this concept, but my plan is to paint all the walls in a creamy white color and all the trim is white. The floors will be a deep, rich, chocolate brown color. I will change out the extras with seasons so that I can have rich deep colors in the winter months and move on to my whimsical ideas in spring and summer. But, after Christmas I always feel that less is better.
i LOVE your nests and eggs - I'm going for some of that in my bedroom (still hunting).

I finally got all my Christmas decor. put away today...everything seems so bare..I also have to find a piece of furniture. We rearranged for the tree and now i have a whole in the living room. ha.
All you did looks very pretty! What kind of camera did you get?

Shannon, you have such a great way of arranging items. You should work for a boutique and arrange their goods or maybe as a home stager. You have such a good eye.

So here's a question - your house always looks so great - uncluttered and such. Is your hubby naturally a neat guy and picks up after himself? Were you just really blessed in that area? Any tips on keeping things tidy?

The Berry's Patch said...

I usually change out decorations, move the furniture, organize and de-clutter after Christmas. I get tired of looking at some of my decorations and move them to other areas.

You have the cutest decorations though. Your pictures are beautiful.

I love all your bird things. I can't believe you already saw the movie again! Who'd you go with? My aunt has seen it 4 times. The books interfered with my life for 2 weeks. I didn't do anything but work, read, and sleep. I'm just glad I read them before now, otherwise I wouldn't be getting ANY studying done.

It looks beautiful, Shannon, and puts me in the mood for spring...too bad we have melting snow outside and the wind whipping through the trees right now!

I'll be putting our Christmas decorations away this weekend and trying to brainstorm some ideas to lighten and brighten my decor.

I love my new camers, too. Wasn't Christmas wonderful this year?
I have so many things that I collect. I pack so much away and then I regret it because I miss things. I know I couldn't have the same style in every room. I am very eclectic--a mix of new and old and country and prim. I am glad to be past the Christmas decor but there are 3 months of winter yet. I have snowmen and mittens and such out for now. Soon it will be Valentines and I will get out hearts and cupids but I don't change every room with it. I do change with the seasons--bedding, towels, flowers & vases, rugs, curtains, etc. I love the things you do but I know I would have to have different in each room.
Where do you find all the nests? I love the cloche idea but I might put different things under them. The only thing I have that even resembles a cloche is my cheese-keeper. LOL
