Baby Shower

This weekend we had a baby shower at my house for Desty. She is one of five girls in our Sunday School who are pregnant!

The baby's initials on a little chalkboard with pink roses.
I was able to use the snack plates I have been collecting. It worked out great. I decided not to mix the designs this time and just went with this feminine pattern.

I love these little bird vases I got at Oops. Would you believe they were .80 each? I saw these on someone's blog for $39.99 for five!!
Here are the cute cupcakes.
All the food
All the hostesses, minus one. Joni, Abby, me, Katie, Heather and Jennifer.

Sunday Song

All Creatures of Our God and King
St. Francis of Assisi
All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou ing sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam,
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the spirit, Three in One!
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Outside Fall Decor

I finally got around to buying mums and pumpkins. It felt weird because it was 83 degrees and I was sweating but it was still fun! I changed things up this year a little but still similar. Here is what I did for the past 3 years.

I made a real pumpkin topiary out of different colored pumpkins. It is always funny to have my geraniums out with mums. I just can't bear to tear them out while they are alive.

This year I had to do some things differently because the place where I get my pumpkins is not there anymore! I couldn't find any "Cinderella" pumpkins anywhere.

I was also kind of lazy with my mums and just bought the ones with the baskets. They haven't started blooming yet but I think the yellow ones will be pretty.
This is the first year I haven't bought red mums. I thought I would try something new. I found this wreath at TJMaxx. I couldn't believe it was only $16.99. I would not be able to make one for any less.
Here is our back porch:
I was lazy with the back porch too. Instead of buying and planting more flowers I just stuck some pumpkins in the pots.
Chris has some great fall foliage...go check it out.
Have a good weekend!

Award and Random Things

This award came from My House-My Life. She is lucky enough to live in Lancaster, PA. I would love to go there! Thank you so much! I will pass this on to Leslie from Feathers In My Nest. She has such a great sense of style! I love her house and blog.

Tanya at Ladybug and Honeybear gave me this award. She has such a cute blog and just celebrated a birthday recently! Thanks Tanya! I think Leah at Just Like Camping deserves this award. Sometimes she makes me think too hard but it is always fun to stop at her blog.

Darlene, Brandi, and Cindy wanted to know six random things about me.

1. Everyone thinks it is weird that I hate potatoes of any kind.
2. I also, hate strawberries.
3. I am the middle child and only girl.
4. I love organizing and cleaning out.

*I asked Cody to tell me something for the last two:

5. I was the president of the student chapter of American Society of Interior Design (ASID) in college. (or in his words, "you were the president of Interior Design Nation.") Ha!
6. " You like your hamburger with cheese and ketchup only and you like birds."

Zach and Shopping

We had a fun filled, busy weekend with Zach and Cody's parents. I picked up Zach at 1:00 on Friday. I was supposed to take him home to our house and let him sleep for a couple of hours. Well, he got a second wind when we got home and didn't get a nap until 3:00. He was still perfect (of course) and did so good when we went out to eat later that night.

I thought this picture was so funny. He was making the cutest expression. I think he played with that water bottle for 20 minutes.
When Cody's parents got here they had a basket full of toys that he absolutely loved. He loved playing inside the basket too! We had a blast keeping him and it was a little sad when he left Saturday morning because the house was just too quiet. He is so cute. (An aunt can say that as many times as she wants!)

After he left, Cody's mom and I got to go shopping while Cody and his dad went to the Razorback game. I think we had a lot more fun than they did since we lost. I didn't find too much for the house but got several Christmas presents out of the way.
I got this great black and white ribbon and cream easel at Oops for a total of $2.95. For some reason I was in to turkeys that day and got this plate and towel set at TJ Maxx. The box of leaves was something random I got at Linens N Things. I have been seeing a lot of you putting out fake leaves and I thought it looked so good. This is what I did with mine:

I put it under the pumpkins. I think I like this better than the raffia. It added more color. Thanks to all of you for the idea!

Fall Dining Room

We have been having the best weather. Ever since Ike made his way past us, we have had fall-like temperatures. It has been in the 40's in the morning and only warming up to the low 70's. It has been so nice. Here are a few pictures our our dining room.

I always have trouble with a centerpiece for this table. At Christmas, it is even worse. Why are they so hard? They have to be the just the right size and height and that can make things complicated for me! :)
For this one, I took a wicker leaf shaped "tray" and piled on pumpkins and a fall pick and topped it with my wire bird cloche.
I tied a fall pick on these candleholders and will put Christmas greenery on them in December.

I also snapped a few pictures of our office. I didn't do too much in here.

I couldn't pass up this little pumpkin man from Hobby Lobby. They had a few vintage looking pieces up by the register the other day. It was only a small selection and when I went back a few days later it was gone. It looks bright in this picture but it really isn't. Well, that wraps up the fall tour.

Cody's parents are coming to stay this weekend and I will be keeping Zach Friday through Saturday. So I probably won't be on here too much. I will be shopping so I will be sure to show you our finds from Oops! Have a great weekend!

Fall Living Room

I was able to get my camera back and take some better pics of the Living Room. Before they were too dark and some are still a little dark but you can get the idea. I tried to keep it kind of simple in here and on the mantel.

I usually change out this dough bowl for the seasons.
Side table
I love this old Revival Praises hymnal. It has stalks of wheat on the front so it looks fall-ish.

On the sofa table I just framed a pumpkin from scrapbook paper.
Tomorrow I will try to show you the dining room and office and that will wrap up the tour. I didn't do too much in there though. I have been getting so many ideas from all of you to try next year. It has already made me excited for all the Christmas pics that are sure to come!
PS Head over to Jennifer's blog to enter a great giveaway! And it involves food!

Fun Stuff

I have met the sweetest lady through blogging, Linda at Parker's Paradise. She saw my post on these snack plates and mailed me some from her collection!! She sent several sets and about 10 extra cups! I couldn't believe it when I got it in the mail. I was so excited. This particular pattern is one of my favorites but very hard to find around here. Thank you so much Linda!! You are so sweet! (I'll be sending you a little surprise soon!)

Look at this cute award from My Messy Nest!! She was so nice to pass it along to me. I know several people who deserve a Fluffy Nest Award but I can only pass it along to two people. I think Stacey at The Blessed Nest and Nichole at Our Cozy Nest are pretty deserving. Thanks Kate!

September 11th, 2001

Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

I was getting ready for my 9:15 class in my apartment that I shared with two other girls. I was a Sophomore at the University of Central Arkansas. I was listening to Big D and Bubba while putting on my makeup when they stopped all their joking and talking and in a serious voice said, "We have just heard that the President will be speaking in a few minutes." I thought that was weird that they would announce that. For some reason though I decided it sounded serious so I went and turned on the TV just in time to see the second airplane crash into the second tower. I was in shock. I woke up my roommates and we watched the news with tears. I went to my class and was surprised to see that my professor didn't really care and wanted to just continue on with class, even though one of my classmates was hysterical because her husband was supposed to be on that flight. It turns out she was able to get a hold of him and he wasn't on the plane.

I was thankful my younger brother didn't go on his high school Jr. trip to Washington DC that week. His classmates were on a bus headed to tour the pentagon when they learned of the attacks. They saw the airplane that crashed into the pentagon.

Every year I write the anniversary on my calendar because I never want to forget. I will never forget the ones who died that day or their family members. I am so thankful for the men and women who fight for our freedom everyday.

Where were you?

Psalm 121:1-2
I lift my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Hall Bathroom Ready

This might be a slow blogging week for me because I left my camera at Katie's house and won't be getting it back until Saturday. I had pics of my living room fall decor but I have changed it already so I will take some new pics this weekend. In the meantime, here is my hall bathroom.

Katie got me this sign at a local craft fair last year and I love it! I never would have thought to make something like that.
These glass things (what are they called?) get changed out with the seasons. I usually keep a small bird nest with eggs in them during the spring and summer and they get seasonal things in them for Easter, Fall, and Christmas. Right now they have some acorns and nut looking things. I also love those flickering battery powered votives.
Here is a close up of this little man that my mom bought me. He is so cute!

Kitchen Ready For Fall

I'm glad so many of you have entered for the giveaway. If you haven't, be sure to click here. It seems to be the consensus that DH means "Dear Husband" or "Darling Husband". For some reason whenever I saw it, in my head I said, "Devoted Husband". So I guess it is whatever you want it to be in your head!

Also, Bloglines is a way for you to see if your favorite blogs have been updated. Click here to get started. I keep the page in my favorites so I just have one click and can see a list of my blogs. If the blog name is in bold then I know it has been updated. So quick and easy! You don't have to go to all your blogs 100 times a day to see if they have been updated. It has saved me a lot of time.

I will now apologize in advance for the quality of these pictures. I just can't get it right. So some of them are dark and some might be really bright. Here are some pics of my kitchen ready for fall.

I got this pumpkin "man" at my favorite real store (as opposed to Oops) the first year we moved here and it is probably my favorite fall piece. As I was looking at it this morning I realized it would be pretty easy to make with a regular pumpkin. Or if you were really crafty you could paper mache your own.
I know several of you wait to put out Halloween type decor until at least October but I just go ahead and mix mine right in. I'm not sure Zach could be any cuter.

My favorite fall candle is from Oops and was only $2. I tied some ribbon on a pitcher to add some color to it. I got that in Florida at Old Time Pottery. Let me tell you, you are really lucky if you live near one of those stores! It is great! That pitcher was only $4.99.

This is one of those dark pictures. I usually keep a seasonal platter in this corner.
I got this "Blessings" sign at a local craft fair a couple of years ago and keep it up year round. It ties in with the colors of our house so I don't feel bad leaving it up. But it looks especially good during the fall months.
My favorite part about fall? The candy! We don't like candy corn so that is just for decoration and for guests who like it, but that Treat jar will be gone in less than a week. Guaranteed.
This is the top of the china cabinet in our kitchen.
I wanted to keep the inside of the cabinet pretty simple so I just added some small pumpkins and pine cones.

We were so young looking in that picture! I think that was my 21st birthday. We weren't even engaged yet.

I've really been inspired by some of you who make things for the seasons. I will probably try some more of that next year. Right now I have store bought accessories that I try to mix in with my current ones but I am liking the natural looking things that you are making. That is why I love blogging!! It reminds me that there is always room for improvement and new ideas.

We have a wedding to go to this weekend but I will try to post more fall pictures Sunday night. Have a great weekend!
