Weekend Project

While Cody was busy hanging this owl where everyone in the world can see it...
I was busy doing this:
I took an old window from our first house and had Cody break four of the panes. Then I gave the window a quick coat of cream paint and painted some unfinished picture frames black.
I then put some green scrapbook paper in the frames with some wedding photos.
I painted the top side panes with chalkboard paint and tied a letter with ribbon in the middle pane.
I secured the frames and letter with a piece of ribbon and upholstery tacks.
One of our guest rooms is more of a shabby chic look so I thought it would look good in there.
A couple of years ago Oops had these platters for $2.00 so I bought like 6 and hung one over the window.
I could see keeping all the panes in and painting them all in chalkboard paint. Or hanging a picture frame in all the spaces. I'm sure you all could share some great ideas you could do with an old window.
PS The owl is NOT working!!

Tour of Oops

I talk so much about Oops that I thought I would give you a little tour. The pictures are not that great of quality but I wasn't using my flash because people were starting to stare.
These tall faux mercury birds were only $6.25.
This is what it looks like. Just rows and rows of stuff.
I love these jars. I keep my upholstery tacks in them.

I loved the color of these clocks.

I've been debating about getting one of these for forever. They are only $6.25.
Concrete looking candlesticks.
Faux mercury pitchers.
They have been getting some furniture in and it is so cool.
I love this cream cabinet!!! If only I had room! It is only $365.00.
I love this color even though I don't have anything that color.
Rows and rows of lamps.
This cute little green vanity was only $66.00.
I hope you enjoyed the tour! I didn't even take pictures of the floral section (huge), tools (boring) or the food (gross). They also have a section of area rugs. If I had a booth at a flea market in another area this is where I could get everything. But too many people know about it in this area. If you have a booth somewhere it would be worth the drive. Seriously!

It Has Come To This...

So this is what it has come to:

Yes, I know that is not where you are supposed to put those things but that is where Cody put it. :) I wanted to hang it from a string way up high in the corner where you couldn't see it but you see who won that. Trust me, it will only be here for a few days. The baby barn swallows finally flew away a couple of days ago so Cody torn down their nest. About two days later they were back building it again. So now I am the crazy bird lady with an owl.

On a much happier note, I am really excited about this:
I saw it on Our Cozy Nest and thought it was so cool. I'm going to make some cards with initials on them. It is from TheStampCastle.com. If I don't get to post tomorrow, have a good weekend! Project still in progress.

Lake Fun

Unfortunately I haven't been shopping or doing any decorating projects lately but I have been spending some quality time with friends and family. Saturday we went to the lake and had a great time. Here are a lot of picture in random order.

Katie surfing
Zach and Katie taking a swimming break. Zach loved the water but didn't really like his life jacket.
Our friends, Davin and Stacy
Proof I was there.
Precious Zach.
Jason, Cody and Davin about to jump.
Cody
Jason freaking out in mid-air.
Cody surfing.
Stacy looks a little worried but she did great for her first time!

I promise I am going to get back into the thrifting and decorating mode. I do have a little project I'm thinking about doing. In the mean time I am enjoying all of your wonderful ideas!

Random Pictures

If you haven't been over to Beth Moore's blog you should go. She is hosting a "Siesta Summer Bible Study" with anyone who wants to join in. We are all doing No Other Gods by Kelly Minter. Tuesday night was our first night. A group of 5 of us met at my house for dinner and then to talk a little about the book. We will be meeting every other Tuesday until August. If you want the details go on over to her blog to check it out. There is still time!
Elizabeth and Me
Shannon, Hillary and Katie

I thought I would leave you with some pictures of two of my favorite little guys. This is Connor. I have been his nanny since he was 2 and 1/2 months and now he is almost two!! I can't believe how time flies.
I couldn't resist this cute picture of him in his Superman PJ's. He loves these and it has a cape that velcros onto the back. He always brings it to me and says, "on". So cute. He is pointing to it in this picture. (He was born without his fibia bone so he had to have is foot amputated. That is why he has a prosthetic on. He does soooo well with this and you would never know he even had one if you were just meeting him.)
And of course my all time favorite little guy is my nephew Zach. He is Katie's, my sister in law's precious baby. He is already 7 months old and that is so hard to believe! I have always heard time flies and I'm guessing it is even worse when it is your own baby!
He loves to sit up and play with his toys and even more recently he loves to splash in the lake, pool, or his little baby pool. How could you resist him?

Our Mantel

Kari and Kijsa have asked for pictures of our mantels. If you haven't been to their site it is a must. They have a new idea pretty much everyday. Our mantel is pretty simple. I love the watercolor hanging over it. My grandmother gave it to us. It is a painting of a cottage in the woods and is very peaceful.
Something strange about our mantel is that it is only about 6 inches deep. That is not very much! That is the reason why I don't have a lot of stuff on it. However, Cody's Dad is going to make us a "cap" with crown molding on it to sit on top so it will be about 10 inches deep. I will finally be able to put a nativity set on it during Christmas.

Here is our mantel during "life". It is very hard to get Cody to take a picture where he is not making a face but he is still cute!

Our Office

I thought I would show you the rest of our office. I've shown you the new black cabinet we got but here is the rest. I put the pictures that were over our bed in here and I like them here so much better.

I had a basic white platter that I wasn't really using anymore so I painted the inset with chalkboard paint. I hung it with a black and white ribbon. What else can I paint with chalkboard paint....
I love these chairs that my grandmother gave us. One day I would like to get them re-upholstered. That "table" is a plant stand that I put a round piece of glass on. I already had both so it was free!
In the bathroom we took down the standard builder grade mirror and hung this painted one. Of course it came from Oops.
This picture was one of the very first things I bought from a flea market when we got married. It is probably not worth a dime but it goes with the shower curtain so well and it reminds me of our first little house. That is our office. Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Imperfectly Beautiful

The Nester is hosting a "It doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful" party. She has asked everyone to post pictures of things in our life or home that are not perfect but are beautiful to us. This is a picture of our first house. It would not be considered perfect by any means with its crooked plaster walls, tiny closets, tiny kitchen and just all the little quirks that come with a house built in the forties. But it was perfect for us. This house was the first house we lived in as a married couple so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
This is a picture from Thanksgiving last year. It was imperfect in so many ways (mainly because it was at my house) but so beautiful. This was the first Thanksgiving dinner ever hosted at my house. We had over 12 people and I didn't even think about the fact that I wouldn't have enough silverware! I also had Thanksgiving decorations mixed with Christmas decorations (as you can see in the picture). Thank goodness I was not in charge of the food!! My mom came up the week before so she was able to cook a lot of the food. The most beautiful (and perfect) thing about this picture is my first nephew, Zach. He was born just a few days before Thanksgiving so that will always make this Thanksgiving special.

Head on over to The Nester to see some more examples of Imperfectly Beautiful.
