Using Silver

One of my favorite things is silver. I especially love silver trays but really anything that is silver. The other day I had a million things to do but for some reason I decided to spend a couple hours polishing all of my silver and my mom's silver. She recently loaned me 4 trays because I thought I might use them at a party but I did not end up using them so they were still in the box needing a good polish. These pieces were given to her at her wedding. Remember this picture?
I was never satisfied with that cord! Why do they make cords black?! It would be so much easier if they were all white. Anyway, I took one of her small platters and disguised the cord. If you want to know how I tied my cord that way then go here.
Much better I think. I love plates and I love silver so that definitely works for me! Below, I took one of her more decorative platters and used it as a tray for a Christmas display.

Although I think it is a shame to not use your silver, when I am not using it I will store it in my china cabinet. The platter on the middle shelf was given to me at one of my bridal showers but the platters on the bottom are all my moms. I think it is neat that we have one that is almost exactly the same!
Even though I polished these pieces, I do love a little tarnish on the silver when I am using them in displays. It makes it look a little more antique. But every now and then I will polish it so it stays beautiful. Do you have any creative ways to use your silver around the house? I would love any suggestions because I think it is just too pretty to not use.
*I also wanted to clarify some things from my last post. Thanks for all the birthday wishes but my birthday was actually in the summer. :) She had forgotten to give it to me last time we saw eachother. :)
*Also, the Secret Santa Soiree was hosted by Georgie and was so much fun! You will have to join in next year. She also posted a list of who had who so now I know that Sidz6Kidz had me! She didn't post the blog addresses so if you see this Sid, then comment so I can come to your blog again! :) Thank you so much!!

I love silver too! I beg for new pieces every Christmas. When my grandmother past away, I received her silver tea set and it is one of my prized possessions! I don't have any creative ways to display it though!

Sadly I don't have any silver but I do think it's beautiful when it's displayed. (:

That's so neat to have some of your mom's silver too. I have a few pieces, not much...sadly I inherited them through buying our house. She left a whole bunch of stuff. She also left about 10 large copper antique pots with detailed handles. I don't know too much about copper though. Take care, your stuff is beautiful.

I love silver. But I admit that many of my pieces need to be polished, big time. Hopefully before Christmas dinner, when we are going to use it all!

I love using silver too. I have a little tray I found at a garage sale in my bathroom. Also, I have a small collection of silver teapots (also from garage sales) that I use as vases in the spring!

Love silver though I do not have to many pieces, I do have many hammered aluminum pieces that I use all over the house. We have a large foot stool in our living room that holds a few "Coffee Table Books" and on top of those sits a tray, that has ever changing itmes on it.

The silver platters are so pretty. I don't know why I always think they are so 'dressy' and wouldn't look right in my home, but you have used them in ways that show me they don't have to be. :) Maybe I'll start picking up some silver!

I have to tell you that every time I see a nest or a bird, I think of you! You need to send me your address because one of these days I'm going to come across something too cute to pass up! Hopefully, you don't get too sick of birds and nests. :)

Have a great weekend, girl! Keep blogging...yours is one of my faves!

I love your idea of using the silver tray to disguise the cord...I've often wondered why cords are black/brown.

Silver trays are the best! Yours look great around your house and clever little you to hide that nasty cord, hehe. I think that is so neat that you and your mom share and yall almost have matching ones, sweet! I really dont have too many pieces but I do adore some copper. I have started collecting a few small pieces that I have found. The hunt is half the fun. Hope all of your hoildays are going great so far. Your home looks just so beautiful. I was hoping to get up there to see my Mom and check out yalls opps store. I dont think I will make it this year. Maybe in the spring. I would love to have lunch. Something to look forward to in the new year. Take Care~

Yes...I love silver and have some pieces also...I love how you hid your cord in the bathroom.

Oh yeah...your mom let you borrow them so does she want them back or do you get to keep them...I borrow from my Mom and lots of times she just tells me to keep it...which I love doing! You know how it is with parents...they have the coolest things!

I've used silver platters several ways. I've used them to hold bottles on a buffet table, to hold jars for bathroom items, etc.

Looks great! You are good~ Polishing silver is a chore I'm not a fan of! Maybe if I had a glass of wine and kiddos in bed it might be easier??? ;)
Good lamp cord disguise hun!

I like the tray behind the lamp. That looks great as does the trays in your cabinet.

Hey, thanks for you comment...very uplifting for me! Blog friends are awesome.

I think the "silent issue" you referred to is the same one I was hinting at. We'd already had 8 months of "nothing" and then this happens, making it impossible to even consider "that" if you know what I mean. Arg! Being 35 doesn't give me the luxury of time, either! That "friend" from work...I confided in her about this issue, then she ups and tells me basically "hey, I think I want to also!" Then I heard the other day that she is. Boom, out of nowhere. It's just not fair. Some things fall into place so easily for some people.

Enough of my whining. I'll be keeping your "silent issue" in my prayers for you!

I love your apothecary jar with the snow and the photo. I had some photos out of my grandparents and me in the winter. I think I will copy your idea :0)

I am on the hunt for the perfect silver tray for Courtney's dresser to put all of her perfume & stuff on. I think that will be perfect for a little girl's room!

Unfortunately, it's not just the "job" part, it's the insurance. The insurance we found that we could afford doesn't cover any of mty care...nothing. So it would ALL be out of pocket (dr, every basic thing), and we just can't afford that on our own.

But I'm hoping and praying things will change soon! I don't want to be as old as Sarah. LOL

I love your silver~ and your mom's :) I think a little tarnish looks great at times too.

I have always wondered why lamp makers make the cords fifty feet long and make them the ugliest black or brown colors- maybe they should make them a transparent clear color. I have always wanted lamps to be cordless - wish I could find something like that!
I have always had a problem w/cords! I loved your 'tutorial' for shortening and containing them- in fact, I asked my middle son to look at your tutorial and do that to a couple lamps for me-now he is an expert at cord shortening!haha- He has shortnened almost every cord in our home- it definitely helps and looks better- especially on those ones that show- like the lamps in the bathroom.
Thanks for the blogging tips Shannon- I think that is a great idea!
Have a great weekend~

It is a shame not to use silver. I have a beautiful service in the attic that just sits there. I need to get DH to get it down for me. I think I will after the holidays. I have several trays. A full set of sterling flatware that I never use anymore. I think I will use it for my Christmas Eve Dinner Party. I should get my trays out. I do get my trivits out and put candie and nuts in them.

We have all dark wood walls in our kitchen, so I love putting silver behind anything decorative to give it something to "pop" against...or to hide lamp cords, like yours! The silver looks beautiful in your china cabinet.
