Christmas Living Room

The last stop on the Christmas tour is our living room. Come on in and look at the pretty rug that my internet friend, Brittany, sent me. I just call her my friend but Cody calls her my "internet" friend. We met on Rate My Space over a year ago!

Isn't it pretty? It is from Ballard Designs. The colors are perfect for our house since we decorate in red, limes and golds. I just love this rug.

This is behind our front door and the greenery gets changed out seasonally. Of course I had to add a little nest to it.

I love to get out my lime green pillows this time of year. The middle pillow was an after Christmas deal at Target a couple of years ago. It really brings all the colors together.

For some reason I have a thing for Santas and even more so for tall skinny Santas. I got this little guy at Oops a couple of years ago. He has turned out to be one of my favorite decorations.

I added some fake snow to a plate and made a little "scene" from a bird and seasonal nest.

Our end table is decorated with some greenery and a nativity snow globe.

Santa and some more mistletoe.

You can click on this picture to enlarge it but the topper to the Christmas tree is what Cody thinks looks like an alien landed there. There are some red and green glittery picks with some feathers. I love it but it just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to Cody for some reason. :)

I am so glad we widened our mantel this past summer so we could put our nativity set there this year. I have always wanted to do this and this is the first year I have gotten to do it. I got this nativity last year for 90% off. Good thing too, since it was regularly $300.00! For those math wiz's out there, that means I got it for $30.00! I was almost jumping up and down in the aisle.

For some reason I have always had Cody "pot" our tree in a garden urn. I like that it gives it height and it makes room to put the presents. Funny story--for our first Christmas I knew I wanted it potted so I went to Lowes to buy some cement. Well, while I was there I let the guy talk me into just buying sand. He said that it would hold really well. So that is what we did. Well it probably wasn't a week later that we woke up in the middle of the night to shattering glass. It scared us to death but I knew immediately what had happened....our first ever Christmas tree had fallen over and shattered all our glass ornaments. Cody thought he knew immediately what had happened....he thought someone had shattered our window so they could rob us. Well, he started yelling really loud and mean to scare them away. He scared me so badly (I had never heard him sound like that!) that I couldn't even talk to tell him that it was the tree! :) We laugh about it now but that was not a fun night. Sooooo, I had my dad help him put cement in it and we have not had any problems since. Go with your first instinct girls. Don't let some anyone talk you into anything that you know is not going to work.

I'll be joining up with The Nester's garland party on Wednesday. I can't wait to see everyone's garland!

The alien?! hahaha! It looks beautiful, and it does NOT look alien-ish to me! hahaha!

I have had my eye out for a beautiful nativity set for years, too. Lucky you...$30! WOW! It's gorgeous!

And I love your rug from your "internet" friend. I love how Ballard's does all those prints together with the harlequins and stuff, and then throws in leopard print for good measure! ;o)

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by potting your tree in cement? Is it a live tree? What do you do exactly?

Everything looks so elegant and beautiful. I wish I had a mantel for my nativity set. It's porcelain (and expensive) and since I have little boys it doesn't come out of the box. :-)

I am LOL right now at the thought of Cody screaming so loud and mean that it scared you! My husband has done the same to me, only he was in the throes of a nightmare!

The house looks beautiul-as usual-!

My sis was over the other day, and was pilfering around my laptop, and was all curious about blogs. (She hasn't been sucked in by the blogging world yet) Well, yours was the first one she went to, and I couldn't get her to give my laptop back! She just kept saying how beautiful your house is. So, now she's checking you out all the time!

So pretty--reminds me of of own tree in the 'more youthful' days past. I love the feather idea. Gives me inspiration to do something smaller for our 'Charlie Brown' tree! LOL Pheasant feathers, right? I can even get peacock but I think they'd be too big for our tree.
I admire your beautiful set-up and more so, your energy to decorate so beautifully.....

Ilove it! I love it all! We have twin trees in a sense. I have the same glittery christmas tree on the top of my tree. And istead of feathers-I have silver unfbky wheat stuff and some tall candy canes. You husabnd would say the same thing about my trees! Oh well-who wants to be normal?
I also love the idea of doing a little scene under the cloche. What a great idea to use the snow. I just might have to do that. OH yes-I need one more christmas thing in my house. I am pretty sure if I put one more thing-anywhere my house will tip over!!

It is a BEAUTIFUL tree!
That story is funny now, but I can imagine that it was not when it happened. Something similar happened to me last year with a tabletop tree I have. It fell off the top of the entertainment stand and scared me half to death! And I didn't have a husband to protect me!Ha!

Cari said...

Shannon, as always your home looks beautiful! What a great deal on that nativity set! I want a nice one for next Christmas. I love the "alien" on the tree!

Thanks for the inspiration Shannon, although it will have to wait one more year...too many little hands at this house - ha! :)

I think that tree topper is FUN. But I can see how a guy just wouldn't "get it." Lol.

You inspired me to buy a cloche (is that that that glass dome is called?) at the thrift store today. I'm going to paint the wooden base cream and fill it with something Christmassy to make an almost-snowglobe. I can't wait!

Adam & Jessica said...

Your husband saying the tree topper looks like an alien sounds like something my husband would say haha! When I told him I was going to add feathers to our tree he looked at me like I was CRAZY! haha Your tree is gorgeous and your house looks GREAT!!

Amanda said...

maybe a silly question but how do you do cement and still water the tree?

Mandi said...

Tree topper, sensational... garland, gorgeous...but that rug, TO DIE FOR!! I will be visiting Ballard designs in a few mins. I love their catalog anyway, but that rug is perfection! Hilarious story about the tree, I would have panicked like Cody did. Good thing you didn't call the police to report a burglar.

I love the deeply discounted nativity set. What a deal!

What a funny tree story! I'm sure it wasn't when it happened though.
The house looks beautiful and of course the tree.
So you have to store the base of the tree in the urn. Do you take the rest apart?
Where did you find the nativity set?
