Thrift Store Finds

Yesterday I was finally able to go to my favorite thrift store. I hadn't been in a couple of weeks. I was able to find a few things I "needed". I found a snack plate and cup for $1.00 and a white platter for $2.00 but I think the best find was these pictures I got for .50 each. Look at how beautiful they are!
Obviously I am kidding because these are hideous! The artist who painted them put the date and they are every bit of 1996. I had been looking for something just like this for a project. Awhile back I was browsing the scrapbooking aisle, as I always do, and found some really pretty tags. Since I don't really scrapbook anymore I thought I could frame some of them. These were perfect so I painted them (they look black, but they were blue) and framed the tags.
I just trimmed some cardstock to the right size and layered it with a cream piece so it looks more like a mat. I taped the tags on and then taped the cardstock right back on the original painting.
I wanted it to be removable so I could change them out so I just used painter's tape to hold it in.
Don't you just love upholstery tacks? I use them for everything! They are so much prettier than a regular nail. I stapled some ribbon on the back since I didn't have any picture hangers and I wanted to use what I had.
I had been needing something to hang in this bathroom. So for way under $5.00 I had some "art" that matched the room.

A little bloggy maintenance:

You can submit a pumpkin for the contest from any year. As long as it was made by you or someone in your family. Also, it doesn't have to be carved...it can just be decorated. Be creative! I have already gotten several entries. They are cute!!

It is my goal to comment on everyone's blog who leaves a comment. So if you have not ever heard from me it means I cannot access your profile. Make sure your profile is available to everyone (if you want it to be). Some of the ones I have not been able to get too are "THE ROOST" or someone named "kate". When I click on your name it says that your profile is not set up to be viewed by others. So just know that if I have never commented back it is because for some reason I can't get to you.

AWESOME thrift store finds and rehabs Shannon! I haven't been to the thrift store in a while either. I'm overdue. There's a good one near my office, so I may go at lunch.

I love that you used tags for the "art." There's so many cool things out there that look fabulous when framed.

I love the ribbon idea!!! You are so creative in your decorating - and great thrift finds too.

I've never carved a pumpkin in my life! I'm afraid mine would look very kindergarten - but it would be fun to do one anyway. Great idea for a contest!

Great fins! I love the idea of the tacks instead of nails....my hubby hates nails in my new walls so we have been using the tiny push tabs and I still have to get my big pics up.

Anyway love the frames you made and yes I do love ribbon on those type frames alot better...just adds to the pic.

I also love upholstery tacks - so easy.

Very cute...they turned out great! I never would have known how it all started...humble beginnins! ;o) I love it! And I have used painter's tape on projects like this, too...only instead of you doing so it would be "removable later," I did it because I simply didn't have any tape so I used that...haha! I'm always afraid someone is going to look at the back of my "monogrammed stationary turned art" piece and see a big ol' jumbled mess back there!

Funny, just the other day while shopping at the thrift store, this box caught my eye. I guess it was the vintage-looking design. When I opened it up it was full of those clear plates you just bought. There were also little cups to go with the plates. Since that day, I've seen those plates/cups in 3 other blogs. Maybe I should go back and get the set. lol

I love the frames btw. So simple and yet so elegant.

Hi Shannon,
I was totally thinking of you when on my drive home I spotted a yard sale, I quick turned around to go back and was rewarded with scoring 4 snack plates with their cups for $6, I probably paid way more than you would have paid but since these were the first ones I've seen anywhere I had to snag them up! *smiles* Have a wonderfully blessed week!

I tried to comment you on the post about the shower you had, but my comment wouldn't come up. Wanted to tell you how lovely the shower was and I had 2 questions:
1) what is Oops?
2) did you make the chalkboard with the baby's initials on it? if so, how?--i LOVE it.

I love visiting your blog, I've out you on my list of "Favorite Places" so my friends and family can see your great blog also!

We had a failed IVF so I took a 4 month break and then a month ago started preparing for our frozen embryo transfer (we had one embryo from our last cycle that made it to blastocyst stage). The transfer was Wednesday and now we're on the dreaded 2 week wait. :)

Let me know when you start back with treatment, so I can be praying!
