New TV Cabinet

Awhile back I posted about our new TV cabinet. I wanted to wait to post a detailed post until our TV and sign came in. Now, they are both here!
This is how I have the shelves arranged right now but that could all change at any moment. You never know around here.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this sign from Nestlings. She was wonderful to work with and does great work! She was so helpful and very patient with me when I couldn't make up my mind.
I got these urns awhile back at Oops for about .60 cents and found this greenery for .70 cents the other day. It fits perfectly. My question to you is, should I paint these urns? Do they show up well enough? I need to find a pic for this frame. I'm going to keep them all black and white so I just need to find a good one.
Here is Cody's favorite part: the TV. The long awaited TV. As you can see I don't have much to say about this....it is a TV for goodness sakes! Oh look, there is Michael Phelps!
So, paint the urns or not?

That's beautiful. I would paint the urns black but that's just me.

I love how you can hide the tv. Black is my vote for the urns too. Love the frame that says Home!

Go Dawgs!!!! :)

Yeppers, I think I'd have some fun and paint those puppies! Love the new TV cabinet. It looks great! Hugs

Oh, I do love those urns! And the greenery! I could use some of that! You get the best deals:) I'm undecided about the color though. I like the color they are but black would look good too! Sorry I'm no help!

It's beautiful!! Love the sign...and I would go black on the urns too!

I actually like the color of the urns. I think that if I was you, I might use some cream colored acrylic paint and rub it on with a foam brush or a rag, not covering the whole urn, but just accenting it, like on the ridges, to give them some added dimension. That's my suggestion! :) Let us know what you decide!

Shannon,

How about painting them cream? I know the "right" thing to do would be to paint them black. However, I think it would just lighten it up a bit.

The cabinet looks great and I LOVE< LOVE the sign and the "home" frame! Where did you find the frame? Please don't say Oops:)

I like the urns as they are, but I also think black would be pretty too!
Where did you get the entertainment center? It all looks so lovely!

Shannon, it's such a beautiful cabinet. You will have so much fun changing out the accessories for the holidays.

I like the rusty color. I'm not sure I would paint it.

Black would look great on the urns, but probably won't make them stand out too much. I think they'd definitely stand out if you painted them cream.
I'm lovin' that big sign on the top shelf!

The new cabinet looks great all accessorized! I think I would paint the urn cream - I think it will show up and stand out more than black.

I love the new set up! I think the urns will stand out better if you paint them! Thanks for the comments on my photos! I am obsessed, what can I say??! I hope you have a great week!!

Love the cabinet! It is perfect.

Paint the urns. I had not thought of a color, but everyone says black, so go with black.

GREAT cabinet and decorations. LOVE the name sign....it is beautiful. I am on the fence about the urns...can't decide whether you should paint them or not.

I found you blog a few days ago via Kelly. Love it! We have very similar decorating styles. I would LOVE to be able to shop at OOPS. I live in MS, so I don't think that I could convince my husband to take me to AR to shop there. ha ha!

I say paint the urns--maybe a cream wash with black antiquing?

I think painting them black would be my choice but they also look nice the way they are!

Not that my opinion is super important to you since I just started reading your blog TODAY, but I love the idea someone else suggested for the color cream. If you use one coat of acrylic paint in antique white, it will come out "distressed" looking, so it will still have streaks of the original color. I think cream will really stand out, but still blend with your frames and that great "Davis" sign.

This cabinet is awsome by the way. And the TV is cool too, but I know you probably don't care as much about the TV as you do the cabinet ;0

Congrats on your new furniture! :) It's beautiful and you do a great display!
I think yes, do paint the urns. At least in the pics they don't show up terribly well.
Have a great week!

i say paint them, get crazy and paint them robbins egg blue.  they would really show up then.  or maybe red, i really like red...  good luck.  love the cabnit!

Wow, that cabinet is beautiful. I would definitely paint the urns. Can't wait to see what you decide.

Love the sign and the cabinet. Got to have me some black furniture. Everyone's got some but me. Where did the sign come from?

I like the urns, but I do think they would look better black! :)

Cherry's Jubilee said...

At first I thought black..but in looking back at the pic..I say a creamy white...I notice the other sign and picture frame are a nice distressed white and I think they pop nicely against the wood and black of the armoire. Where did you get the home frame I love it. cherry

I vote for painting the urns, too. They look good in the close-up, but got lost in the overall picture. Black would be great, but I love the idea of trying to recreate the look of those frames - they're beautiful! Or, maybe a lighter green, lighter than the color of the greenery?

Kitty Scraps said...

Wowser, what a nice cabinet and I heart your sign. Noticed your Lobby love with the picture frame *smiles* gonna have to see if we have that one at work.

I like the urns, but I think I agree with other posters that if you paint them the distressed creamy white would stand out more and blend with your cute new sign.

Rae said...

What a great piece!! It's so nice that both you and hubby are so happy!

I say paint the urns but I'm afraid my vote is not for black. I think there needs to be a bit more contrast between the urns and the cabinet.

Have fun!!

Everything looks so great! Beautiful sign...I may check that site out! I think I like the urns the color they are. I'd keep them that color at least through fall and then maybe then I'd paint them? But if they were black, they'd really get lost in that cabinet... go for off-white! :o) But what do I know? lol

Susie Harris said...

Very PURDY!!!! That sign.... We all need one now, hehe! Yall both did a great job on that. I might paint the urns if I were you. They kinda blend in with the brown wood. Thats ok too but if you want them to POP.... paint. Who needs a tv in there when you have that to look at. So pretty, really Shannon! Im coming back here to show yall off to my Hunny when he gets home tonight... Take care..Opps lately?..smile

Looks beautiful. Such a lovley piece of furniture. Yes paint the urns.

I LOVE the sign--I'll have to check her out! I'd paint the urns cream to stand out, plus they'd go with the cream in the sign, pic frame, etc.

The cabinet turned out beautiful. For the urn I would suggest putting some ribbon around it in a favorite color or pattern first and see if you like that look. You could always change the ribbon for each season too.

Hi, Shannon...I have been enjoying your blog and heart for a while now...I would love to see them painted cream.

That cabinet is just beautiful. I love the finish on it. I think the urns would show up more if they were white or a cream color.

Hi Shannon, love your new tv cabinet. Simply gorgeous.

As for painting, I'm not one to ask, because I am painting everything black in sight. :)

Antique White paint w/ a bit of brown stain rubbed in the crevices would really stand out! Where did you find the photo fame? Love it!

Oooh, do the tv doors just slide up? Very neat!

I love the color the urns are right now, but they do blend in a bit.

The sign is so pretty--you're tempting me!

I like to paint EVERYTHING black, so I'd say do it! I just like black the best! I LOVE your sign!!!

Strawberry Blonde said...

So, I guess I will go against the norm. I say leave them as they are. I like that they blend in and you can really see the greenery (which looks great!). I think that you have enough white accents, that the urns look good as they sit.

But, that's just me.

I l.o.v.e. it!!!!

It's beautiful! I like the urns the way they are but they would also look great black!

Girl, I'm about to google that Oops store and tell them they need to open one in North Texas!!!

You're a very talented decorator!!

Oh, yeah, have I ever told you I spent my junior high years in Rogers? I still like to say "Wooo Pigs!" but they don't show Arkansas sports down here. :(

LINDA said...

I vote for the black. It is very attractive. I know I was kind of different about getting rid of the old one but this one has really grown on me. It has some awesome display space and the distressing is great. Bravo, Shannon! You have a beautiful piece there....

Twice as Nice said...

This is the "other" twin. I think painting them black with a black and white ribbon would be nice. If you have any red in the room perhaps a brick red would look good too. So may choices but what is nice is if you paint them and don't like the color changing them isn't pricey!! You have great style so you will do just fine with whatever you decide :o)

Maybe black or cream, but I am so into aqua now, I might as well through that into the mix, lol.

That's a beautiful entertainment center, mine is about 15 years old and there's not a thing wrong with it, other than I am tired of looking at it ;)

I LOVE that name plaque! That is so neat!! I think the urns look fine now, but if I changed the color of them, I would probably go lighter (like a cream with rubbed off bits to show that rusty brown underneath) just so they might show up a bit better in the dark cabinet.

Nicole said...

I love your tv cabinet. It's beautiful and you have it decorated perfectly. I think I might paint the urns a cream. You know I love black, but I'm not sure how well it would show up. You could do black with pretty cream bow though.

Nancy Hood said...

I'm with Christy, I thought cream for the urns with a rubbing of dark brown. Love the sign and intend to go to that site right now!

Leslie said...

Looks so nice Shannon! My man would be jealous! I want one of those signs with your name on it! I like the urns but if you wanted to paint my choice would be an off white-ish but that is just me.

Jen said...

What a great sign. It would perfectly in my home since we share the same sir name. I stumbled across your site a few weeks ago and just love it. I use to decorate a lot before I had children and now not so much, but I still love looking at everyone else decor. You do a wonderful job with your decorating as well as your blog. Thanks so much and God bless! Oh as far as the urn color. I would either rub on some cream, but maybe dry brush it and not over all of it or just go for a solid matte black.

Mrs. Trixi said...

Oh, Shannon, it's beautiful. I think the urns look great as is, but if I were going to paint them it would be black.

Wow - 55 comments on to paint or not to paint...gotta love it. Just wanted to add that I found some of those great little glass serving tray/cups at my local Goodwill. Picked it up in honor of you...or whoever gave you the idea. I will go back and look.:)

Don't you just love new furniture that has shelves?? Whether it's folded linens or picture frames or books, organizing shelves is so much fun for me (easy to please!). My hubby is building built-in bookcases for our study and I'm rarin' to go...thanks for some ideas from your new cabinet.
