Bed Linens

Since I've started this blog I have gotten several questions about the bed linens on the different beds in our house. I will try to answer as many of those questions that I can.

You will notice several things that are consistent on all the beds. First, I have at least three layers of pillows on each bed. Also, in the front I have at least one accent pillow. Secondly, there is a fluffy duvet cover on the end of each bed. Thirdly, there is not any comforters on any of the beds, only quilts.
The one thing that I must have is bed risers. When you see these you probably think of dorm rooms but I love them. I love the look of a tall bed. These work for me because I do not really like matching bedroom suites so I don't have an actually "bed" except for one of the guest beds. This frees me up to put the frame on risers and then either attach the headboard to the wall or in my case, just lean it up against the wall. The mattresses hold it in place. Note: if you use risers you will probably have to get a bed skirt with a longer drop. These are easy to find at Bed Bath and Beyond and other linen stores. Also, we even had these on hardwood floors once and it was fine. They really don't move around.
I have to have Euro pillows. These are the square pillows in the back. I think they add so much height and variation.

Another thing I do is mix and match. Even in our master bedroom where everything is white, it is all different textures. I like to mix ginghams, florals, solids, stripes, plaids and patterns.
Another essential to all the beds is down pillows. All the shams and are stuffed with down. If you have a Bed Bath and Beyond in your area you can get great deals on down pillows with the 20% off coupons. I think everyone knows you can use expired coupons and as many as you want. I usually use at least 3 every time I go. Note: since all the pillows that are actually slept on are down too, they have a cotton pillow protector under the pillow case so feathers don't poke your face.
In this room I had an iron bed frame so I didn't use the risers. I am fine with that because it is an antique bed and those seem to be higher than beds these days.
In here I mixed a lot of patterns but it works because it is tied in with the quilted cream Euros and accent pillow.
The most frequent question is where did I get everything? My all time favorite store to buy bedding is TJMaxx. In the last bedroom I showed you, every single piece came from TJMaxx (minus the bed skirt). Including the down insert for the duvet, the total was less than $150. My other favorite stores are Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens N Things and Target. Nothing fancy for me. I even got some Pottery Barn shams at a garage sale. Keep your eyes pealed and you can always find great deals. I hope this answers all the questions!

My kids are in school... I just got home from the gym... wish I could curl up on one of these. They all look so pretty and comfy. Euro's are a must for me too.

What pretty beds. I have a high bed in my room as well...I can't imagine going back to the regular bed. I like the Euro shams too. I have started a collection of platters for over my bed like you have. They are so pretty.

I just have to say: I love your blog and style! I am very jealous of your store Opps:( Where I live we have a great flea market...Canton Trade days that is a gold mine for great deals/antiques (but only open once a month)!

I too just hung white plates above my bed and I love the way they look (I am going to blog about it soon)! Your bedrooms are beautiful! I love how you layer pillows, you can never have too many!

Thanks for your stopping by my blog and to answer your question. I got that towel holder at my favorite store Hobby Lobby!

Oh Shannon, your beds rival any fine B&B!! Great job mixing patterns and textures. I knew you could use multiple coupons at Bed Bath Beyond but I didn't know they would let you use expires!! I just threw away three:( Again, great blog! I love your sense of style!

Your beds looks like the comfy beds at my grandmother's house as a child. I always loved staying there and plopping down on all the pillows and then feeling the weight of all the heavy comforters on us at night when it was cold. I try to do that to my bed, but my husband just complains that he can't sleep with so many blankets. And every time I add new pillows he's like," What did out old pillows have babies? Why are there so many on the bed now?" Guys just don't get it.

Hi Shannon,
Your beds are ALL beautiful and look so cozy....I just want to climb in one of those beds and curl up for a long nights sleep or read a great book up against those pillows. As always, I LOVE your style!

I always find my bedding at TJMAXX too. I don't think I've ever gotten it anywhere else.

Your beds are so pretty and so comfy looking.

Have a great day!

I love Euro style pillows too, and my husband doesn't get why we buy these pillows when we're not even going to sleep on them...but they look so pretty!

Your beds are all beautiful. I have always wondered about the stability of those bed risers. I have one bed that is too low, and I would like to use these. Any info would be helpful. Jackie

Risers, what a great idea! I didn't know they existed! We just have our box-spring and mattress on the floor, which I hate. But if we had a metal bed frame under it, I'd need stairs to get into bed (not a bad thing!), so I don't think I'll ever want risers for this particular bed (it's a double-sided pillow-top mattress). I love high beds, hubby likes low platform beds, so we have to compromise.

All your beds are beautiful.

I have always loved really tall beds too, but I never thought of risers. I don't know how it would work for my bed though. We have a large bed/large furniture and I wonder how it would be to raise the bed.
You have great bedrooms!

Your beds are very pretty! I've been wanting to do something with my bedroom since moving in two years ago and still haven't been inspired by anything. Your mix n match style looks so sweet! I have an Amish quilt that was given to me as a wedding gift (22+yrs ago) that is pink and white. I'm thinking that should be easy to find mix and match pieces for. Do you think that would look ok with a black wrought iron canopy bed? And green walls? Right now I have rusty red and taupe bedding which I think looks horrible with my green walls *sigh* Would this be too much shabby chic for winter months since the colors would be lighter? I'm sorry I bombarded you with too many questions but I totally *heart* how sweet your beds all look!

I just want to fling myself on every one of your beds... I love all white bedding. That's what my master bed looks like, too. It always looks so clean and crisp!

Lovin' your bedrooms! They really stood out to me when you did a home tour blog log a few times back! Shannon, you are very talented!!! I, too, have white bedding, no comforters~ too heavy for me. I love to mix up things, too! Our bedroom is totally not finished though~ had to do kiddos rooms 1st, so we'll get to ours soon! Maybe I'll have to post a pick! Your comment was too funny hun~ yep, I say back to the grind all the time, too. But, tell your hubby that just means we're extra cute because we say fun things!!! No dorks here!!! ;) Hugs~ Les

I am going to redo our beds! This was the inspiration I needed. I was ready to get ride of the comforter on our bed because it looked so messy but need it for warmth. I am going to get a coverlet and fold the duvet at the end of the bed and add a few more pillows. Thank you, thank you.

Love the clean and fresh look of the white linens - I regret not doing white in our bedroom! Thanks for sharing all your bargain purchases!

haha! You are so funny, Shannon! I am in the process of finishing up some of my bedroom "stuff" and wanted to wait to take pictures. I am trying to make my own headboard and moving around some furniture in the house. I have been on a mad hunt for a particular dresser for my bedroom. But I reckon I can go ahead and do pictures and post 'em. As soon as I finish the headboard, that is!

Shannon...you have wonderful taste in decorating...Love, Love, Love your beds!! I'm thinking about changing my linens. Where did you find the red/white checked duvet and shams? I'm thinking about using red/white checked bed skirt and a white quilt.

You definitely have a gift for dressing beds - they all look beautiful! Thanks for the idea about
folding my other comforter and putting it at the end of the bed. That floating thing you saw is a vase
(one of those with a flat back) hanging on a wall with some flowers and greenery in it. You can't tell there's a wall in the picture. Now the big mystery has been solved!

Oh and thanks for the idea about a putting something larger on my shelf in the kitchen - I think you may be right - I think there is too much dead space above it but I just didnt realize that was the problem before you said it. Thanks!

I love your beds, they look so fluffy and comfy. I've always wanted a high bed like that. You know, one that you needed a running start to get on. You have wonderful taste. Now I want to go buy more pillows for my bed.

Hi Shannon,

Oh the beds look so cozy and inviting! I love it that someone else likes alot of pillows and high beds.

All of our bed frames are antiques and therefore rather high.

Dear Shannon, first off you're a sweetie :) You've no idea how much I've hated my bedding with my walls. And I've been on the fence, do I go the trendy route and spend $$$ which I am loathe to do or do I make something I love work but how? After seeing how beautifully you've blended all your bedding I'm totally inspired. Your encouragement and suggestions meant so much, you're got wonderful ideas, thank you so much!

I think I found my weekend project *smiles*

Please...come redecorate my house.

Also, Redeeming Love is one of my all-time favorites. Ever. More than that, though, I adore the Mark of the Lion Trilogy. I reread all 3 books every single year. Good, good stuff, indeed! Francine Rivers is gifted and blessed.
