I'm Back!

We decided to go with.....
Any combo of black, white or khaki. As you can see, we had a smaller group this year. Since we went later in the summer, school had already started so my aunt and two cousins could not come. Also, since Cody had just started his new job earlier this month he didn't go :( and my younger brother didn't go. My other grandparents didn't end up going either.
We had wonderful weather so we were so grateful! The day before we left, the extended forecast said it was going to rain every day we were there. But we were hopeful and it only rained one day we were there so that was our shopping day (more on that later). Here are a few pictures from our week. As you can see, our main focus was on Zach.

My friend Elizabeth came with us
My brother Jason, Katie and Zach

I'm busy unpacking and doing laundry but I am going to get my fall decorations out later today and tomorrow. I can't wait to put all of it out!

Several of you guessed black for our color combo! We also got several ideas for next year too! Thanks for all of your sweet comments!

Bed Linens

Since I've started this blog I have gotten several questions about the bed linens on the different beds in our house. I will try to answer as many of those questions that I can.

You will notice several things that are consistent on all the beds. First, I have at least three layers of pillows on each bed. Also, in the front I have at least one accent pillow. Secondly, there is a fluffy duvet cover on the end of each bed. Thirdly, there is not any comforters on any of the beds, only quilts.
The one thing that I must have is bed risers. When you see these you probably think of dorm rooms but I love them. I love the look of a tall bed. These work for me because I do not really like matching bedroom suites so I don't have an actually "bed" except for one of the guest beds. This frees me up to put the frame on risers and then either attach the headboard to the wall or in my case, just lean it up against the wall. The mattresses hold it in place. Note: if you use risers you will probably have to get a bed skirt with a longer drop. These are easy to find at Bed Bath and Beyond and other linen stores. Also, we even had these on hardwood floors once and it was fine. They really don't move around.
I have to have Euro pillows. These are the square pillows in the back. I think they add so much height and variation.

Another thing I do is mix and match. Even in our master bedroom where everything is white, it is all different textures. I like to mix ginghams, florals, solids, stripes, plaids and patterns.
Another essential to all the beds is down pillows. All the shams and are stuffed with down. If you have a Bed Bath and Beyond in your area you can get great deals on down pillows with the 20% off coupons. I think everyone knows you can use expired coupons and as many as you want. I usually use at least 3 every time I go. Note: since all the pillows that are actually slept on are down too, they have a cotton pillow protector under the pillow case so feathers don't poke your face.
In this room I had an iron bed frame so I didn't use the risers. I am fine with that because it is an antique bed and those seem to be higher than beds these days.
In here I mixed a lot of patterns but it works because it is tied in with the quilted cream Euros and accent pillow.
The most frequent question is where did I get everything? My all time favorite store to buy bedding is TJMaxx. In the last bedroom I showed you, every single piece came from TJMaxx (minus the bed skirt). Including the down insert for the duvet, the total was less than $150. My other favorite stores are Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens N Things and Target. Nothing fancy for me. I even got some Pottery Barn shams at a garage sale. Keep your eyes pealed and you can always find great deals. I hope this answers all the questions!

New TV Cabinet

Awhile back I posted about our new TV cabinet. I wanted to wait to post a detailed post until our TV and sign came in. Now, they are both here!
This is how I have the shelves arranged right now but that could all change at any moment. You never know around here.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this sign from Nestlings. She was wonderful to work with and does great work! She was so helpful and very patient with me when I couldn't make up my mind.
I got these urns awhile back at Oops for about .60 cents and found this greenery for .70 cents the other day. It fits perfectly. My question to you is, should I paint these urns? Do they show up well enough? I need to find a pic for this frame. I'm going to keep them all black and white so I just need to find a good one.
Here is Cody's favorite part: the TV. The long awaited TV. As you can see I don't have much to say about is a TV for goodness sakes! Oh look, there is Michael Phelps!
So, paint the urns or not?

Favorite Find

At least it is my most recent favorite find. Yesterday I showed you my thrifting finds and said I was saving my favorite find for later. Well, here it is! I know these are not that unusual, actually they are fairly easy to find, but I have just discovered them. However, I cannot take any credit for discovering these. Stacey at The Blessed Nest deserves all the credit.

She introduced me to these luncheon sets when she talked about her favorite yard sale find during the Party. I fell in love when I saw them on her blog and decided I needed some for all the showers and parties I have coming up.
I'm hosting a baby shower in a couple of months so these will be perfect for the finger foods and punch. These two patterns are my favorite but I saw a couple of different sets that I might go back and get.
I'm not quite sure how many I will need but I found 17 sets at 3 antique stores so I'm sure I can find more. I have my mom looking in her town for some and plan on going out to look for some more today. All I can say is, thank you Stacey! I love these and cannot wait to use them.

I think Thursday was my most successful thrifting day ever. I went to my favorite antique mall and realized they were closing so almost every booth was 1/2 off! I couldn't believe they were closing but I loved all the deals I got. This isn't everything....I will post what I am most excited about later. I got that heavy glass cake stand for $10, small bowl for $1, gravy boat for $4, candlestick (which is for another project) for $4 and I got the juicer for my Mom (surprise Mom!) for $5. These aren't Goodwill prices but they are pretty good antique mall prices.

As I was shopping today I was thinking about how we get so excited for each other when we find good deals. I love seeing everyone's thrift/flea market/antique finds and hearing about the great deals. Some of my favorite posts are when you show your finds. In fact, the favorite thing I bought today was inspired by one of your favorite finds. I'll show you that later...

Great Source

Several people asked me where I got this birthday banner. I recently ran across an Etsy site that has some really cute ones. Meringue Designs makes these and some other cute stuff too!

If you haven't been to Nikki's Nacs you should. She has a really cute blog! She also gave me this sweet award.

Look at this cute Smile Award! Kate at My Messy Nest gave it to me. She has a really cute blog so go check it out.

I couldn't possible pick only a few of you to give this to because I love all of your blogs! Every single one inspires me and gives me great ideas. So go check out these two blogs, you won't be disappointed!

Remember these? What did you think I was going to do with them? I bet most of you thought I would use them on a chandelier.
You would be right! I tied them with fishing line to the arms of my chandelier. It is really hard to take a picture of a light fixture especially when there is a window by it. So sorry if these are blurry.
I realized I was one short so I guess I will just have to go back to Oops. Oh well. And I will be going to Oops because I saw them at my favorite real store for $4 each! These were only one dollar each. I bet I know where she got them...
Sorry if you were expecting some great big huge project. This was about as easy as it comes. The fishing line I used actually turned out to be brown so it was even better (who knew there were a million varieties of fishing line!). You cannot see it at all in real life. I even got a, "Looks good, Babe." from Cody. When I first told him what I was going to do he was a real skeptic. I was kind of a skeptic at first (when I was visualizing it in the store) so I can't blame him!
Go with your instincts!

Shopping Weekend

Cody's parents came up this weekend so his mom and I did what we do best, shop. My mission: find some stuff to fill up my TV cabinet. Mission: UN-accomplished. But I did find some cute things for around the house. This black and white plate is from TJMaxx. You can always find cute plates there. I needed a new rug to go by our shower and found the perfect one at Kirklands.
Remember that soup tureen from Oops? I went back several times to buy it but they never had it. I found it this time...only $6.25.
This great fall wreath is from TJMaxx. They had so much cute fall stuff this year. Usually they don't have a big selection but there were two aisles of it! This wreath is so full and was only $14.00.
I got this fall "greenery" thing at my favorite real store, The Gift House. They make the cutest things to just lay around.
This cute little ceramic pumpkin was only .65 at Oops.
Don't tell my mom it has this on one side. She hates Halloween decor!
Stay tuned for a project involving these. I got them for a dollar each at Oops. I'm really excited about these. I hope it turns out!
Still on the hunt for things to fill up my TV cabinet. I did order a sign from Nestlings on Etsy for the top shelf so I will show you when it is all finished. I hope ya'll had a great weekend too!

Join the Party

Rhonda at Southern Hospitality is hosting a party! It is a party to show your favorite antique/flea market find. I couldn't pick just one so I will show you a few. I think I have already talked about all these things so you might be seeing them for a second time.

One of my favorite finds is this green kitchen scale. I love the old green color. I looked forever for one of these in the perfect color. I found this one high up on a shelf in a random antique mall in Ft. Smith. I probably paid too much for it but when you have been looking for the perfect one it is worth it. Eighteen dollars wasn't so bad to me.
This black cabinet is my most recent favorite flea market find. Love it! I laugh everytime I think about Cody and his co-worker going to pick this up. His co-worker is a college guy and Cody said he was in total shock that someone would actually go in a store like that (it was a regular old flea market but to a college guy, it was a complete junk store). Cody just said, "Oh, this doesn't surprise me. It's typical."
I love my white plates. Most of them were found at antique malls and flea markets. One was given to me and the top one is from TJ Maxx.
I can't talk about my favorite finds without mentioning this green cabinet! So sentimental to me that I don't even care that it takes up the entire room and forces the bed to be shoved up against a wall. You can read more about the cabinet here.
I also love my collection of glass jars. I know they are called something fancy but I can't think of it right now. My mom always picks these up for me at estate sales. I love all the different designs.

Now, go to Rhonda's blog and check out all the links.
