Candleholder Before and After

If you looked closely at my dining room pictures you probably noticed some candlesticks on the wall. On second thought, you might not have seen them because they blended in so much. On the builder beige walls there was definitely more of a contrast but not so much on the brown walls.
Before:

Taking all of your inspiration from the many spray painted pieces I decided to spray paint them. I just got some off white paint at Walmart but in the future I will always prime. The paint didn't stick that well to the metal so it took a lot of coats. If I would have primed them I think it would have been a lot less.
Now I think they stand out a lot more and tie into the cream curtains. I even rubbed a little walnut stain on them but that didn't turn out so great. Oh well, it was my first time with stain and spray paint so it was a learning experience. Now I will have to find more things to spray paint!
I still want to try Kimba's idea to spray paint old thrifted dishes. That was such a great idea and I think it turned out great.

I love me some spray paint! I also love those bottles of acrylic paint to (more color choices). My hubby jokes that he is going to have to ground me from my paints!

Your candleholders came out great! With the color candles you used, they really look great with the curtains. Awesome job!

Here's my complaint with using spray paint- it's almost impossible to glaze or age it. It's like... you get what the cap is and nothing else. You have to sand it and glaze the underpaint or something to age it. Kwim?

I love those brown walls. I love when people use those bold colors! I did my half-bath a brown that I LOVE. My neighbor gave me a thumbs down. Whatevs! :o) I love it.

Spray paint is addicting, isn't it? I did it for the first time a few months ago, and now I'm hooked.

You did a nice job painting the candle holders. Your new mantel looks great and 5" will make a huge difference.
I change things every couple of months, usually to do with a holiday.
Have a good weekend.

They look good. I have those same holders - I just haven't used them anywhere yet.

Rustoleum makes great primer for metal.

I have found that "rub and buff" is great for "aging" metal and ornate picture frames after you spray paint them. I use my finger to dab/rub where I want.

I spent about 3 days spray painting everything that didn't move and my ds commented that he liked that I was in such a great mood. Quite possibly I was high as a kite????

Shannon,

I have those same candle holders. I painted mine brown though. They look great!

Also for Christmas I made a swag for both of the candle holders. I took pine garland and cut it down to size and tied sparkly fruit and ribbon on them.

They look great against the brown walls. What a beautiful color! I haven't tried aging anything that I've painted. I'll have to experiment a little and see what works.

Thanks for the linky!

They do show up much better with the spray paint. It does the trick. I have found if the surface is glossy at all, that is when the paint doesn't stick. Have a great weekend!
