I'm so excited to see that all of my newly planted flowers made it through the 22 degree frost we had about a month ago. They all wilted and turned brown but I left them because we had just planted them a few days before and I didn't want to go buy more to replant.
Much to my surprise they all came back! I had given up hope and almost threw them away but over the last week I have seen a lot of green.
This hosta was not newly planted but I am just so surprised that it already has a bloom. It is the only one out of 7 that has one. The others haven't even shot up a stalk (is that what they are called?).
If you remember I was most devastated about my hydrangeas. Above is the before picture. After the frost they completely wilted and basically disappeared. I didn't even have a "dead" picture because it was so pitiful. I NEVER dreamed they would come back. A lot of you suggested to just leave them so I did and this is what I have now! I'm not sure they will bloom this summer but who cares!! They are back! They actually look a lot healthier now. Who knew!
Song of Solomon 2:12
Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.

A few people have asked to see pictures of my kitchen. So here it is in all it's glory. :) It does not have the floors, cabinets, or countertops I would have chosen but I am still very grateful for what I have. The only thing we did when we moved in was paint, change the chandelier, and buy a fridge. We went with stainless with the intentions of upgrading our microwave, stove and dishwasher in time. The sink is already stainless. I don't do as much cooking in there as I (or Cody) would like but it gets plenty of baking time! Enjoy the photos.

I bought this chandelier at a flea market before we were married because it was such a great deal. That was over 4 years ago and it has been in both of our homes. It has special light bulbs so thankfully (and amazingly) they have not gone out.

Let me know if any of you post about your kitchen. I love seeing them!

Project & Friend

I have been wanting to try this in my house for years. Inside my pantry door I thought a chalk board would be cute but didn't want to hang one because it would bounce around when I opened and closed the door.
So I decided to just paint one with chalkboard paint. I just taped off the edges and gave it a few coats. Now, where to store the chalk???
The best part of the weekend was my best friend Christina and her baby coming to visit. We have been best friends since 7th grade and I hadn't seen Jay since he was born.
He is now five months and cute as ever. Such a happy boy and always smiling!
We had a fun weekend just talking (until 3am) and of course shopping. We went to go to Oops and found some great stuff. It was a great weekend!

Frame It

One of the things I like to do is frame things that are not pictures. I think it adds a little interest and an unexpected surprise. Here are a few things I have framed around the house. What is something special and meaningful that you could frame?
Here is our monogram.
Our wedding invitation is framed and in our china cabinet.
This is one of my favorites. It is our initials that Cody carved into a tree when we were dating.
Our rehearsal dinner invitation hangs in our hallway.
This is a small copy of our marriage license. The county clerk gave it to me to keep in my wallet until I could have my last name changed on my drivers license and credit cards.
This is also very special to me. My mom wrote me a poem and gave it to me the day before I got married. She framed it and this probably where I got the inspiration to frame things that are meaningful to me. I'd love to hear some things that you have framed.

A Few Pictures

We had a lot of fun on our vacation. I went through a little bit of internet withdraws but quickly got over it! It was a very relaxing time with nothing but Cody, the beach, the pool and my books. Oh, and a lot of food. A great break indeed.

Before and After

We painted our guest bathroom when we moved in our house 3 years ago. We painted it Sherwin Williams Shagreen. As soon as it went up I knew it was too bright but I didn't have the heart to have Cody repaint it. It just never felt right so this weekend I repainted it.
This is the only before shot I got. I hope you can tell the difference in the pictures but it is kind of hard.
Here it is during the painting. You can kind of tell the difference between the two. It already looks better don't you think?
The new color goes a lot better with the other tones of our house and I'm so happy with it. It is a much softer color.
The new color is Sherwin Williams Svelte Sage recommended by The Nester. I love getting ideas from other bloggers. Thanks for all the great inspiration!

Yellow Challenge

I am usually drawn to the color yellow for my home. It is so warm and inviting but can also be so fun and fresh. This is my first time participating in Angela's monthly color challenge. It was fun. If you want to participate you have until tomorrow night. Here are some pictures of my favorite yellow things around my house.
I love these yellow floral linens. I've had them for awhile and have never gotten tired of them.
My all time favorite paint color: Pratt and Lambert Peanut Shell. I also love the soft yellow tones of this watercolor my grandmother gave me.
I love these silk drapes against the chocolate walls.
Can you ever have enough kitchen towels? They are so fun!
Unfortunately I'm not known for keeping my plants alive. That is why I love these fake yellow flowers from Oops.

What are your favorite things around your house that are yellow?
