Favorite Flea Market Find

Lately I've been reading a lot of blogs about your favorite flea market find. So I thought I would share mine. This green cabinet is my favorite find by far and very special to me. Cody and I were married in 2004 and for our first Christmas together we got some money from our parents and decided to put it together and buy something for the house. After visiting my grandparents in Hot Springs we went to a flea market on our way out of town. I saw this right away and thought it would be perfect!
Our first house was built in the 40's and only had 2 closets that were as wide as the door. So we bought this and put baskets in it with most of our clothes. It worked perfectly. It is pretty large and very deep so I could put baskets in two deep. It held way more than both our closets combined.
I was told it was an antique dry goods storage cabinet but who knows. I don't really care because I love it. It was already painted this great green color and I love the old hardware.
When we moved in our new house it wouldn't turn down any hallway so my dad had to take off the top molding just to get it in this room. It was the only room it would fit in. My dad says that if we ever move the cabinet stays, but I don't think I could ever part with it.
Let me know if you post your favorite flea market find. I would love to know what it is!

Still working on those projects......

Weddings and Projects

On Friday I leave to go be in one of my best friend's wedding. Leah and I have been friends since birth. We have been with each other through some of life's greatest moments: growing up in the same church, going to the same high school, getting boyfriends, having breakups, Jr./Sr. banquet (we didn't have proms), she helped me move in my freshmen dorm and vice versa, engagement parties, she was my maid of honor and was with me every step of the way, and we have been fortunate enough to live in the same town for the past 2 and 1/2 years (since we graduated high school). We have one of those life long friendships that will never end and I am honored to be in her wedding this Saturday.
I have had some projects hanging over my head for a couple of weeks now but I have just been too busy. So, Sunday I plan to start on them. Here is a picture of just some of the things I will be working on. I will show after pictures when they are finished.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and I can't wait to come back and check on all my favorite blogs.

Easter Pictures

I hope everyone had a great Resurrection Sunday! I know we did. We had great music and a great message. We even got the Hallelujah Chorus. We had a wonderful time with family and of course we all enjoyed our time with Zach.
Will there ever be an Easter Sunday when I don't have to wear a jacket?

Window Treatment

**This is an older post that I am linking to The Nester's Mistreatment Party!!**

This weekend I decided to do something about my bathroom window. It is frosted glass so I don't need anything for privacy but the ceilings are so tall I wanted to warm it up somehow. I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby along with the trim. It was all under $20.00. On one of my favorite blogs, The Nesting Place, she talks about making simple window treatments by not sewing or even using a rod. Her trick is using upholstery tacks. So I bought some (100 for $2) at Hobby Lobby.

I cut my fabric in half and glued trim on the bottom. Some people use their hot glue guns but I used fabric glue because I didn't want to wait for the glue to heat up. And I was working on my living room carpet so that could get messy.
I folded over the top so it wouldn't be a raw edge. Then I pushed the upholstery tacks in starting at the two ends, then the middle, and so on.
I turned in the sides so it wouldn't be a raw edge and tacked the bottom to the wall from the inside. (Does that make sense?) I think it turned out pretty good and I know that if I can do it, you can do it for sure! I can sew a straight line but that is all. So any window treatment I can make that does not involve a sewing machine and costs less than $25.00 works for me! Thanks for the inspiration, Nester!

Easter Eggs!

For the third year in a row our Sunday School girls have gotten together at my house to dye Easter eggs. It has turned out to be a great tradition! This year my nephew, Zach, got to join us which was really fun.

Five Picture Challenge

I saw this challenge over at Sissy's and thought it would be fun. You are supposed to take 5 pictures from around your house that says something about you. This took some thought but it was fun to do.

This picture says a few things about me. One, I absolutely love books. Any type of book really but especially books about design or Christian fiction. Two, I love rose bowls and three, I love my husband Cody. I love to keep a picture out from our wedding day because it is such a great memory. I would do that day over any time. It was perfect.

This picture shows a side of me that I inherited from my love affair with dishes. I love plates, decorative plates and platters. I have way too many (according to Cody) but I can't part with them. You never know when you might have 50 million people over!

This picture shows the side of me that loves to do laundry and keep a clean house. It is such a great feeling to have a tidy house with all the laundry done and put up. Speaking of.....I need to put some clothes up right now.

This picture is pretty obvious. I love bird nests and anything bird related. However, I do NOT like real birds because they kind of gross me out and actually scare me a little bit.

Anyone who knows me knows that this picture says a few things about me. One, I love to bake. I did not say cook, but bake. Two, I love chocolate...notice the candy in the jar (almost gone). And three, for some reason I love wooden spoons. But not just any wooden spoon but the ones with the rounded head, not the oval heads. Crate and Barrel has some great wooden spoons. I've been told I'm a wooden spoon snob.

I would love to know five pictures that describe you. Comment on this post and let me know if you take this challenge and I will come take a look.

Fam Night

Me, Elizabeth, Katie

Cody and me

Jason and Katie

Joseph and Elizabeth

For over a year now we have done something we call "Fam Night". Every Thursday night my brother (Jason), sister-in-law (Katie), nephew (Zach), brother (Andrew) us, and our good friends-like family-Elizabeth and Joseph get together to watch Survivor and hang out. We rotate houses and whoever is hosting that night provides the food. It has turned out to be a great tradition with lots of interesting conversation and always LOTS of laughs. It is the highlight of my week. It is great to get together with them because we are the only family we have in our town. All of our parents live at least 3 hours away. Here are some pictures from this past Thursday.

Spring Idea

Wowsers. Four posts in one day. Yes, I'm bored. The Nester, whose blog I frequently stalk (click on her over on the right) (I really need to learn how to link) asked us what our spring ideas were. This is all I got for her. It actually took me a lot of thought....sad, but true. *Update* I figured out how to link!

Bloggity Blog

I started a blog today (I know-breaking news). I mostly did it so I can stalk other bloggers and leave comments about their awesome posts. Once I figure out how to do it and come up with a cute fun name I will make it more professional like. Right now this will do. Hope you enjoy.

Tassel Fun

I recently purchased a CUTE tassel from The Nester and I love it!!! She does such a great job of making them that if you see one you like you have to snatch it up fast and even then you might be on a waiting list! Go check out her blog and you will see what I'm talking about. I'm new at this and don't know how to link so her blog is

China Cabinets

Since my china is white (and I still consider myself a newlywed so I have to display it since I'm obviously not going to use it), I wanted to bring some color into my china cabinet. One of my accent colors is green so I went with that. Everyone kind of smirks a little when they see the nests with apples in them but I love bird nests and the color green so I just put them together! Plus, sometimes I like things that look a little different. China cabinets are hard for me to fill up because I don't want it all to be china so I put a framed picture of our wedding invitation and few canisters in there. Does anybody else have any fun ideas for their cabinet? I also love change so I'm always on the look out for new ideas.
